analbeard
Well, at some point recently I stupidly volunteered to detail the family Disco back to something approaching new, forgetting at the time how big the damn car is and just how much work that would entail. To set the scene, we live out in the middle of nowhere and the car is heavily used as a proper off-roader; i.e. it's no chelsea tractor. As you can imagine, the paintwork has taken a bit of a beating and to say it needs some work is an understatement: That should give you some idea of the state of it, pretty much all the side bodywork is in the same state, trim is faded etc etc. Anyway, I made a start on the front passenger door last night, took an hour and a half just to clay it back to glass-like, 10 passes with the clay til nothing was coming off! I then cranked up the G220 with a medium Menzerna polish/pad and went at it: As you can see from the last two shots, it's quite a bit of an improvement, although it needs another round starting with the intensive pad/polish to remove some of the supermarket door dings (the trouble with having such a big car). The delineating line you see in the 2nd and 3rd photos is purely the effect the polish had, that's not adhesive from the tape! Well pleased with the results. (apologies for the photos, unfortunately my SLR is elsewhere, hence the iPhone shots)
kevcon
Nice start hope you finish, wait till you get to the roof! Makes me want to do my Disco again. Only thing is it took 3 weeks last time and all the neighbors started asking the misses if I had developed OCD. Misses did start to wonder when I crawled underneath and polished up the anti roll bars, diffs and steering rack. Garage couldn't believe how clean it was and was scared to touch it. Also became very paranoid about where I parked and who was parking next to me.
analbeard
haha, well i doubt i'm gonna go to that extent! it'll be an ongoing project really, at the mo mum is driving it around covered in dust with one spotless and beautifully polished door is yours a Disco 3? if so, any idea how you remove the plastic trim on the bottom of the passenger doors where it curves over the wheel arch? i can get the bottom of the door off, but not the bit over the arch. analbeard
had a bit of a play with the snow foam lance in the week, still trying it out to get the best foam out of it: well worth doing in my estimation, this car seems to be an absolute dust magnet so it makes washing it a lot cleaner/safer.
