Wash
You need something like this. It plugs in from your laptop to the OBD port in the car and you use the BMW specific diagnostic software called INPA to run diagnostics etc.

durham4416
So that lead off eBay will give me everything I need, is the software easy enough to get up and running, cheers
Chimp Choker
Dont bother with DIS/Progman. stick with inpa for diagnostic and ncs for coding. you live in norton im always in stockton so i could give a demo/setup for you no worries
Wash
So that lead off eBay will give me everything I need, is the software easy enough to get up and running, cheers You might have a few issues installing and getting the program running but it's not too difficult and if you get any problems then the solution will almost certainly be available. I'm pretty sure you get instructions anyway. Also, I agree with siffion, INPA is all you need for diagnostics because it can read error codes, check electrical circuits, check O2 sensors and all that stuff so it has more than what you'll probably ever need. Individual 330ci
This is something I'd like to get into as well! Where can I download INPA from?

Wash
I found it was a little hard to find INPA on torrent sites, especially one that was working properly. I'll gladly try and upload a copy of the INPA installation files to a decent filesharing website if needed.
