Agreed with Simon!
That floor pan looks OK - I think those disks are available from BMW as new panels.
If you can get a new dash, do so. Everyone that got in mine (for the 2 days of its life it's been working!) would always comment 'what's that on your dash? Oh. It's a crack...' I paid £130 for a pristine one, with vents and a light switch last December if that provides any sort of ballpark figure.
Any idea what the purpose of these discs are Joe? I think there's four altogether, two large two small.
I was think I could just cut a square out around it and weld a square plate In?

Damn!
Don't give up on it!

This has come to a bit of a halt at the moment as i'm kind of stuck until the welding is complete. I need to sort a decent mobile welder, Iv'e decided against using a friends welder as i want the finish to be top notch.
I have stripped the interior completely now and found my dash to have a couple of cracks in Nothing to bad but i may try and source another, although these are becoming hard to find.
I need two new wings so I cannot decide whether to drop the engine back in, rebuild the whole front end and then MOT the car and enjoy it a little, then just take it to a bodyshop to have the whole front end sprayed including the engine bay, or get the engine sprayed (by a mobile sprayer in my garage..) then have the wings done at a later date.
Parts are building up though, All new suspension parts are here and all new brakes excluding calipers as i can't seem to find any new ones for sale... Oh yeah and found more rust in the rear passenger footwell! Arggghh!
Now just to find some more motivation!

So frustrating! fingers crossed its repairable

I have, I went last year.
I stayed in Abu Dhabi with friends who live their so can't help on the accommodation. And we stayed for two weeks so i didn't do any kind of package deal. Tickets I think we got from the official F1 site and we flew with Emirates.I watched the practice sessions and race from 'The Hill' which is the large green area in the centre of the track, good views of the track including the long straight and plenty of screens to see whats going on.
Qualifying I was on the track side balcony of the Vice Roy hotel for their 'Qualifying Brunch'. Amazing experience and so close to the track.
So unfortunately i'm not much help, i didn't sit in any of the grandstands so can't say which are best but I believe the Marina Grandstand is a pretty good spot. Overlooking a fast section of track.
Hope that helps!

Gutted, so close to being finished as well. Glad you're still motivated to finish, some people would give up!
At least you've seen the positive side in it all, funny how these kind of projects effect you.

Yess! fingers crossed

Yess that's what we like! Hopefully the running issues are simple enough to sort.
Is an exhaust upgrade on the cards for the future?

Glad the sort shift makes a nice difference. I bet it feels excellent when you're actually giving it some.
Oh, if you do come to replace all the suspension.... the ECP top mounts do fit.... The ones they sent me where wrong, although they looked identical to the correct ones. Managed to get my subframe back on yesterday too.

I bet that felt awesome! The first drive after so long. The end is in sight

Sweet!
Joe did you replace your front top mounts? The only ones Euros sell don't fit...
I was tempted by some camber adjustable ones but they are silly money..
-
Oh the joys of motoring!
at least you're moving forward,( faster than mine is at least!...)

Nice work Joe, how long you thinking before it's MOT'd and on the road now?
Also which underseal did you use...? need to buy some for my front arches -
Yeah, it's beastly! Shame the phone camera leveled the audio down [emoji20]3 hours ago, Ashley1995 said: Nice work Joe, that sounds awesome without the exhaust attached!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The exhaust is bolted up now, and it sounds boring again, and, weirdly, doesn't idle quite as happily.
I went to put the rear brakes together today, but had my mind blown by drums. I need my dad's help with this old school technology!
I thought all M20s came with rear discs? Or do you mean the handbrake parts?
It's fiddly, this helped me out when I swapped mine

So the engine is coming together!
The last two days I've been cleaning and painting and replacing parts and putting the engine back together.
Everything is getting new nuts and washers too.
Starting to get some good progress now, shame the car isn't ready to take the engine yet.
New silicone hoses make a nice difference, shame the wiring loom is messy but I'll try my best to tidy it..
Pics!

Looks much better
I really want to paint mine, but I don't want to paint over the OEM blue sticker on it. How anal is that?!
Like a tool, I painted the lower half before fitting the engine, then noticed the sticker, so I'm stuck with worst of both worlds now.
I thought that...then i thought against it... and just pulled the stickers off.
I think someone on E30Zone makes all the OEM stickers, could always try him for a replacement instead.

Nice one Joe! Fingers crossed she starts first time!

Bit more work done on the engine this weekend. New injectors seated into the freshly painted fuel rail, fuel rail back into freshly painted inlet manifold and then manifold back onto the head with new studs and nuts. Also painted the thermostat housing and put this back on too.
Still need to sand the BMW logo on the inlet manifold and paint the rocker cover but it's getting there slowly. I went to Players at Goodwood this weekend and it gave me some motivation to get some work done on the car. I miss it!

Woo! some awesome work mate.
Looking forward to seeing this soon!

Had a busy few days getting a load done. got the other side of the engine block painted, painted the exhaust and the inlet manifold and some other small parts including the engine mounts, fuel rail etc
All new studs on both sides, new exhaust heat shields and gaskets. Manifold back on with new nuts and washers too.
It's nice to finally be putting bits and pieces back together rather than taking things apart.
