  1. Awesome thanks. Did think about the battery, but it doesn't have that drainy struggly feeling when starting. Will get a voltmeter on it first tho before changing the controller. Glad to see you can access from underneath! It' also been ok the last couple days...so maybe it's fixed itself
  2. my 320d (2004) is really struggling on cold morning starts. when i had it mapped the guy read the codes and it had all faults for all four glow plugs so presumed it was the controller. never had any problems starting so left it. now its getting colder it takes a good 6 or 7 turns to come to life so looking at changing the unit and plugs if the unit doesnt solve it (they were changed not too long ago). economy is also taking a hit at the moment down to about 42 in the cold when it was hovering around 50. i cant find a DIY anywhere...loads of people saying its a pain and maybe the inlet manifold has to come off but no guide to go with that but the one DIY i found has done it from underneath - http://www.bmwforums.info/3-series-guides/5694-preheating-control-unit-glow-plug-controler-e46-320d-m47tud20-diy.html lack of pictures is annoying tho. has anyone replaced theirs?
  3. im finally getting round to fixing some of the issues on the 320d one of which is the ride and now a pretty loud knocking over small bumps/steering at low speed/occasionally when braking. i put it in for its MOT and it only failed on handbrake and no plate lights. i was expecting bushes everywhere needed replacing and thought the noise was going to be top mounts but not even an advisory. i know the front shocks are gone (they didn't fail as no visable leakage) so could the noise be caused by the shocks. i think the gas is probably long gone and they have been shot for a while. i gently queried the MOT guy to see what condition bushes etc were in and he said they were ok and it could be the shocks causing the noise...sounds like BS to me how the shocks could cause that noise, but no fails on bushes or top mounts. trying to save so ideally don't want to spend an extra £40 on top mounts if i can avoid it. hoping i am wrong and it the shocks could knock like that but does anyone know if they do?
  4. It was indeed the bonnet switch. I've had it disconnected for a couple of days now and not a single sound.
  5. Now I've had it a bit more I think the boot lock is the button press itself and the two issues are unrelated. The alarm goes off only after locking with the remote and without me doing anything else. ie I just lock it as normal and the alarm sounds after about 15 mins. If I lock with the blade then no alarm. The remote has actually worked every time for locking and unlocking. Anyone had this before?
  6. Cool will have to look into getting inpa. tried the locking thing and the alarm did sound opening with the blade after locking with the remote. But the first problem was if I lock with the remote then 30 ish minutes later the alarm goes off. Very strange...
  7. I've bought a 320cd to replace the 330ci. Will be gutted to see the 330 go (if I can bring myself to sell it!) but needs must at the moment and it should help save to buy something proper next year or so (hopefully a 335). The car was pretty cheap but does have a few issues. One annoying one is that the central locking is a bit peculiar. I'm trying to figure out whether it's the GM5. It has locked and unlocked fine so far but the book won't open without the key and the alarm goes off if you lock it with the remote. Only picked it up this morning so I haven't got much experience to say whether it always locks and unlocks with the key but it's been ok the few times today which makes me think it isn't the GM5. Question then is what else could it be? Or maybe the boot and alarm aren't related? Is there any definitive way to diagnose the GM5? If it is that I need to sort it now while I can use the 330. thanks

  9. Holy s**t, that wing! Fitted clubsport gear knob. Had serious buyers remorse about spending 50 quid on a gear knob... but I love changing gear again so all is well. Next up steering wheel retrim
  10. Got the radiator, thermostat, expansion tank and water pump off before progress was stopped by the rain. Hopefully it holds off in the morning so I can get the new bits in. Old vs new radiator
  11. They seem to really be flogging the same gags over and over which is annoying me. Like the celebs dying and that military rescue thing. Funny the first couple times but got a bit tiresome I thought and too predictable. Love the real car bits tho. Back to proper good old top gear. The hellcat is f**king mental!
  12. Yeh I thought it was buggered for a while. Do you use poweramp? I can't get the change track SWC to work even with mtckeys enabled. I think that's all I did for malaysk tho
  13. Mine went and I changed for a cheapo eBay one, even though lots of people had said they don't last long thought I would try it... Well they were right. Mine lasted about 6 months so I'm going to BMW to get the next one. I guess there is a reason for the big price difference
  14. Problem fixed itself so I must have done something right and got some blind luck. Turned the car on to go home and after a few minutes of running scripts and few minutes of boot logo it loaded up fine and seems to be all good. Boot seems faster (although that's probably due to me clogging up the old system) and radio reception is massively improved.
  15. i knew i shouldnt have tried this at work but i did anyway and something has gone wrong. i put the SD in, loaded up and went into recovery, chose the update image from SD and erase data which went fine. loaded up the logo screen and went back into recovery to redo as per instructions and chose update image, got to the logo screen and it stayed there. gave it over 10 minutes but the BMW logo stayed. i dont think i did anything different to before (which worked fine) but i cant really remember. can anyone help???? please!
