  1. Hi Guys, Thanks a lot for the responses. I've ordered a Vanos rebuild kit so will do that this weekend when it arrives, looks simple enough! Car is on 164k on original Vanos/Seals so probably time for a change! The codes i'm getting aren't displayed with a code number on the unit we've got, they just read as "o2 sensor Bank 2 Pre-Cat not enough Heat" and "02 Sensor Bank 2 Post Cat no response". Started getting a MAF code too, so have ordered a used replacement MAF. There's no check engine light or EML lights on so honestly not sure if it's in open loop mode. The tapping noise appears to be a fuel injector (injector 3) so have ordered one of those too! Will report back with progress after the weekend thanks
  2. Hello folks, Getting the 02 sensor fault codes and my mpg seems to have dropped a bit (was always around 32.5mpg, last few tanks have been about 29.5 mpg average). AS far as I can see, i've got no Vac leaks (smoke test) but the engine has become very tappy (around the lifters/injector area). Compression test is also fine so it isnt piston rings. Since fault developed i've Serviced with 5w30 fully synth and new plugs etc. Car feels a little down on power under 3500 rpm and then it picks up, it has felt like this since i've owned it. I considered vanos however no noise from Vanos area and no other symptoms of failing vanos like rough idle or cold start/stalling problems (will start fine in -10c). I'm open to ideas! Thanks
  3. Hi folks, Got a 16:9 Nav in my 46 (Feb 2002, the one without the AUX connector). I've got no audio on rear left or front right so i'm presuming the standard amp in the boot is on it's way out after 160k. Does anyone make a patch/breakout cable to breakout the standard connectors in the boot to an after market amplifier? (rca, speakers, etc) If I want to fit another headunit / amp it looks like I have to rip out the entire system and wiring and start from scratch, which really isn't a route I want to go down tbh. Cheers
  4. Thanks guys! That answers my question pretty thoroughly!
  5. Hello folks, Coming from the world of E36's, metal (alluminium) stat housings were a common/must have upgrade as the plastic ones loved to crack and blow up. It's time to do the waterpump on my 46 and I figured i'd change the stat housing while I was there. Now, the car is on 164k miles and as far as i can tell it's still on it's an original plastic stat housing (deal/OEM one) and I can't for the life of me find a metal replacement. Is this a thing that just doesn't exist for the '46? I guess the plastic/composite ones are more reliable than they used to be? cheers
  6. Pretty sure it isn't just condensation since it happens even after the car has been driven for an hour or more in temperatures above 10c however it could be! I've got the kit to compression test so i'll do that later today, thanks Kirky!
  7. Evening folks, Having a bit of a headache with the 325. Basically, it's smokey from the exhaust when you boot it. Only white smoke, no oil or water. No oil in coolant, coolant level isn't falling so pretty confident it isn't the head gasket. It was using a lot of oil, so I ripped the CCV system out and replaced with a catch can/PCV valve and did the Rocker cover gasket (VGC). Now it's consuming a very small amount of oil but still smoking from the exhaust. Car's on 163k so i'm thinking it's the piston rings. However it's pretty tappy on 5w-40 oil too, so maybe valve seals? Cheers, Matt

  9. I've just replaced the entire front hub with a know working used one, and then replaced the abs ring & sensor with new ones because of this - it's cleared my ABS light but the other 2 are still there so i'm suffering the same as you! Oh and I get zero codes, nothing, not a sausage! Sorry I don't have anything more helpful to add than that, just showing solidarity for this royal pain in the arse fault.
  10. Rear speakers packed in so fitted a pair of 6x9s I had kicking about the garage. Obviously they look horrendous now i've fitted them to the shelf with woodscrews. I'm considering re-covering the whole shelf with a thick black non-slip material I have and then fitting the plastic covers over the top of them: my shelf is horribly discoloured anyway so I've no problem defacing it. Anyone done something similar so i've got some inspiration?
  11. I have a garage full of mk1 MX5 bits and one on the drive lol! I guess we're going down that route then. Thanks Ross!
  12. Hello folks, About to remove my faulty CCV system and replace with an oil catch can and PCV valve. All of the threads I can find are american and use this FRAM part : http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/MGD0/PCV345.oap?year=2000&make=Dodge&model=Intrepid&vi=1361898&ck=Search_02180_1361898_-1&pt=02180&ppt=C0023#itemDetailTab_ I've tried getting hold of this in the UK and the cheapest I can find it is £46 and the local Chrysler dealer was zero help. So, what PCV valve will be suitable for this? I've seen mention of a 1.8 turbo Volkswagon one but it seems a bit plasticy and only mentioned in 1 thread. Cheers, Matt
  13. Morning folks, I've got an early '02 Saloon with standard exterior trim and a few interior extras (nav, tv etc). Trying to give it a bit of an overhaul and find out which Msport bits fit. I'm led to believe the Touring bumpers etc will fit (and the coupe ones with some modification) but what about door trims etc? On the old 36's the Sport trim (black plastics on doors etc) could just be bolted on with no issue and the same for the seats/interior parts but I can't find a definitive guide to what fits and what doesnt for the 46. Anyone point me in the right direction? Cheers, Matt
  14. Hello folks, Got a new issue - replaced passenger side HUB for one with a new wheel bearing in it. The sensor in it is known to be working however it is a 3 pin type. My e46 only supports 2 pin type. Plugging it in caused the dashboard to light up like a Xmas tree (abs, dsc, handbrake etc). Now, the 3 pin Sensor ain't coming out of the hub in a million years so thought i'd just cut it off and bridge whichever wire the 3 pin one has. My wiring loom is Brown & Black. 3 pin sensor is Brown, black and Yellow (Gruber aftermarket sensor). Tried bridging yellow to both brown and black and the dashboard is still a wash with failure lights and the abs kicks in immediately when braking under cornering even at 5 mph. Even tried just looping the brown/black on the car loom side for a sanity check and it's made no difference. Do i need to clear the fault codes and try this again or does the yellow wire need a resistor or something putting in line before bridging? Cheers, Matt
  15. Hi Jayh! Removed the topmounts, put the OEM ones on. Will come back if this doesn't work Thanks very much mate.
