  1. The decisions been made.....the cars going at the weekend. I've got myself a e92 320d msport coupe which I pick up Saturday, I've had the car 8 years and now it's time to say goodbye before it costs me a small fortune.
  2. How much do you think I should be paying for a starter motor replacement? I won't have time to do this myself so will need to drop to a garage
  3. I think it's time to move on now, the cars costing me too much money now
  4. I've just changed the battery, still keeps doing it, I know it's the starter no fault codes are coming up, when it went last time it didn't pull any codes up
  5. Gents a strange problem has started, yesterday morning the car really struggled to start, all lights came on the dash and the car wouldn't crank but the starter was spinning, I'd move the key back to 0 and try again then it would crank a little bit but not start, then on the 3rd or 4th attempt it fired up, once running it was fine, I pulled the codes nothing was coming up, however I did do the battery test on the dash and when trying to crank the voltage dropped down to about 8v, now the starter was replaced 4 years ago about the same time as the battery, ive tried again this morning and it fired up not on the first attempt, i let it sit there to warm up for a good 20 mins then switched off, again on the restart it was a pain to get going but eventually did, now I went out about a hour ago and it wouldn't have none of it, I've taken the battery out now and put it on a charge, again no faults were showing, any ideas??
  6. Well I've taken it all apart again and re-connected everything, made sure everything was nice and tight with the connections on the back of the alternator, then took it for a good run about 8 miles, got everything up to temp, no flickering light, and the battery cables were not hot, im assuming I didn't tighten everything properly, the real test will be tomorrow Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Just an update, I've gone back outside and connected everything back up, cars registering no codes now and started ok, the battery light has flickered a few times but I'm getting a steady 14v through the on board computer as well, I'm stuffed? Perhaps a loose connection caused it??? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Gents my e46 320cd 2004 has had a we bit of an issue, The battery light came on the other day, the alternator was knackered, ordered a new one and changed it over this morning, car was running fine, no lights no codes all ok, then this evening under load the battery light flickers and then the whole car cut out everything, no brake no power nothing, pulled over and the battery terminal in the engine bay was smoking, no burning smell from the alternator at all, disconnected the battery for safety and left it, now tried re connecting and nothing at all no power nothing, any ideas?? Please help I'm in need here of some expertise Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. How olds the battery? I replace mine every 2 years, I'd get the alternator checked just incase mate, could be a underlying problem which you can fix now rather than wait for it to develop into something worse and the car cut out when your not as close to home Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Could be alternator or starter motor on the way out, my battery light came on and I couldn't get the bugger started after I switched off, which leads me more to the alternator, get a mobile electrician to check mate it's the best way Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Sounds like you have a fault not with the cluster with something else, have you had your fault codes read? Could be your steering position sensor Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. There is a cap over the drivers door lock so you can use the key Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Ok I've found the source of the leak, it's the vacuum pipe that leads out of the brake cylinder then goes across the top of the engine and disappears behind where the dipstick goes, any ideas on part numbers gents? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Are these easily accessible or a royal pig to get at? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Gents Had an issue now for about 3 weeks, engine light comes on and the same codes are always coming up, egr valve related, now I took the egr off cleaned it and put it back, still the same issue, now I think it could be a vacuum leak but also something is weirdly happening with the brakes at the same time, if I brake then come off them and have to apply them again the pedal hardly moves, if I dip the clutch and slightly rev it the pedal comes back to normal, leading me to believe it's definitely a vacuum fault but which hose would cause this brake issue as well?? Any ideas? Steve Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
