FazrulSTi
Hi guys, Anyone have had an experience with engine whistling /squeking during idle? Just changed the belting but the sound is still there. The sound only came when the engine is warm. Sent the car to Bmw Specialist, they said it might be waterpump. Asked them about price, its about £250 with installations. hmm...any comments?
MattBMW
hmm not sure about that....it could be the water pump or it could also be an air leak of some kind. I'd get a second opinion to be sure.
mit
I agree with Matt - probably water pump (but could also be other stuff like your A/C compressor, power steering etc).

lee320I
The video of engine squeaking... hi mate, my car sounds exactly the same, i just put it down to characteristics of the pulleys etc. have you got anywhere?
simonlpearce
Cant really listen to that as im at work, but where abouts in the engine is the noise coming from? I had a whistle which you could hear but only when the engine was under load, turned out to be a split intake pipe which i replaced and sorted the problem for under £20! See DIY section for engine whistle DIY.
FazrulSTi
still couldnt solve the problem.. went to several garages, could be waterpump pulley.. gonna change the waterpump tomorrow..quoted £178 includes labour..see how it goes.. btw, temperature OK, water level OK...but the sounds really annoying... MattBMW
that does sound like a pulley is squealing......did you ever have the car sitting for a while by any change say for about 2weeks without being driven? normally it's when moisture gets in and starts to corrode causing the squealing....the problem is once you it's in you'll never get rid of it unless you change the offending part.
