BMW Wheel Hub Sizes/Hub Centre Bore Sizes and ET/Offset

Recommended Posts

Well as my wheels felt kinda small compared to Marty and Dickie i decided to look into getting some new ones and thought this may help others when looking for advice. It also displays all the other BMW's and their wheel sizes.

Have just found this too guys, may help a few of you when looking at the style of wheel you want.

https://www.d2autosport.com/D2_2006/06_Gall...lery_bmw_2.html

the offset is all about how far the face of the wheel is from the hub.

So as you said the smaller the offset the closer to the arch.

The larger the offset, the closer the face of the wheel is to the hub, therefor creating more space between the face of the wheel and the arch.

You also need to take into account the width of the actual rim.

E.g a 9.5" rim with and offset of 45 will sit closer to the arch than a 9" rim with the same offset.

Above courtesy of Marty & Jonny

dicky has 10" rims on the back of his car but gets away with it cos the offsets allow for the additonal width.

ET45 Rim with 255/35/18 rub on the inside of the rear wheel well ( not on arches ) with my KW Variant 3 coilover kit on set 3/4 low, I suspect with camber correction arms I could eliminate this, worth a mention tho

Thought i would just post some info that i found for the maximum fit alloy on my non sport saloon without modifying the arches!

As far as I've looked into it the max i can have on my saloon non sport car is:

Front: 18/19 x 8.5 with 35 Offset (ET35)

Rear: 18/19 x 9.5 with 45 Offset (ET45)

How does rim width effect what offset will fit?

I currently have a set of rondell 058s which i believe are an 8 inch rim (all four are the same). I like the stance of them but they are nearing the end of their life so I have purchased a set of e36 m3 wheels to put on. I believe the offset on these is ET41 and they are 7.5 inch rims all round.

Ihave used the 'wil they fit' link above and it seems that if 8.5J ET35 rims will fit as previously mentioned in this thread then I should be ok with 7.5J ET31 rims. Firstly does this sound correct? secondly assuming the m3 rims are ET41, if i use 10mm spaces will this put the outermost edge of the rim at the same place as an ET31 without spacers would be?

REsults from willtheyfit- Old is 8.5J ET35 and new is 7.5J ET31

Hi all,

Just had a blow out and completely destroyed the alloy and cannot get another anymore!

Looking for replacement alloys and I think I want the M3 style... namely

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT

or

http://www.bmautosport.co.uk/detail.php?siteid=1192

Both are 18's but have different offsets and I don't know which ones are best. Can anyone help as I have no idea about offsets.

I have a 2005 E46 Tourer

thanks in advance all.
