Is anyone going to UBMW from the south?

I was thinking of leaving sometime around mid-day saturday, give or take a couple of hours. I live in chandler's ford, just outside southampton.

If anyone wants to convoy that's cool with me :) just thought i'd put it out there..

Plan (rough times):
I'll be leaving at 10:20 from Southampton.
Meeting Court at 11:00 at Tothill Services, RG20 9ED, McDonalds Car Park.
Meeting Sam at 12:00 at Esso Bicester, OX26 1BT.
Meeting Gaz and the Essex/North London convoy at 13:00 at Milton Keynes Tesco, MK10 0AH.
Meeting Aidan at 13:30 at Olney, MK46 5FJ, Emberton Park
Meeting the Eastern convoy at 13:45 at the Red Lion, Bozeat, NN29 7JR
Departing for the POD :D probably due to arrive just after 2.

This is the route i'm taking (using the postcodes above): http://maps.google.c...4.938354&num=10

As a drive I do regularly, I'd say avoid the M25/M1. Personally I'd go M3 - A34 - A43. That way you'll miss a big load of the motorway traffic.

Edit: Second thoughts, you'll want to miss the A43 as that'll take you straight past Silverstone. I'd still do M3 - A34 as far as Bicester then just avoid Silverstone. The M25 on a Saturday afternoon is going to be hectic.

Yep, that's the route Sam. I'm probably going to be leaving a little bit earlier as want to be there by 2pm. Don't forget to factor in the bundles of people that will be heading for Silverstone for GP qualifying or potentially leaving particually as qualifying finishes at 1pm. B)

Yeah wasn't sure what time that was. If i want to be there for 2pm, what time would you suggest leaving? Think it's 125 miles or so from my house.

And now i'm confused which route to take! Don't know either as I don't drive much that way.. Whatever i do i'll be using a sat nav, just be good to know roughly, the best route!

Think I'm more or less the same distance away. I'm going to be leaving about 11am and going M25/M1. B)

Well I used to swear by the M1 / M25 / M3 route until travelling down with Kriszi's parents. They took us down the A34 and it knocked a good 20-30 minutes off the journey (and that's if you don't hit traffic on the motorway). It's a bit more of an interesting drive as well instead of motorways. The only time I don't use it is if we're travelling down (MK - Bmouth) late on a Friday night and I'm a bit tired. The motorway's better lit so I find that easier.

I normally use the A303, A34, M40, A43 but as its Silverstone I'm gonna take A303, A34, A4421 (Buckingham), A421 (Milton Keynes) then A509 Destination Santa Pod!

Changed the route to aviod getting closure to Silverstone

Sounds good to me. Where would we meet? Sounds like you know the route better than me. My postcode is SO53 1ER so that's where i'm starting! Are you directly on route between me and santa pod? I could meet at or near your place?

Hi Craig. This thread is for a convoy, but have a look at this thread and you'll find all the information you need about the meet :)

Damn it!

Yeah that'd be cool, although I have a feeling we may be going a different route now due to traffic. Maybe the one Court suggested above? I will have a look into it and decide.

EDIT: Si also got the date wrong on the North convoy thread.. serves him right for copy/pasting! :P

Thanks for editing the title Mikey, assuming it was you :)

Hi Sam, That's cool sounds like a plan I'm looking at yours to mine. As I'm in Amesbury it's only 50 minute drive from yours to mine but no point doubling back on yourself. I've done the route quite a few times over the years for VW Shows passing Silverstone....but as its race weekend, I'm going up the to the M4 then cut across to MK avioding the M4 and A43.

I have however found a good meeting point here, it a services on the A34 Tothill Services, Highclere, Hampshire RG20 9.

What do you think?

Craigy - Welcome to the Fold fella! If you do wanna join the convoy your more than welcome. Sam and I are travelling up Saturday as we're Camping the night before. But if you do want to join us you could meet us here, Costa Cafe, Chieveley, West Berkshire RG20 8?

billy rogers - I think we might be a bit too far South West for you fella? We would be taking the A34 West side of Reading. Which is a nice drive though the country thou. But Finding a meeting place would be a bit difficult. The only place we could meet would be the here, Milton Keynes McDonalds.

Let me know what you think?

If you guys are going to be coming through MK anyway, I might meet you there. Makes sense as the way you'd come in to MK you'd have to go past my house :) Then we can drive up through the back roads to the Pod to miss any traffic :)

We'll probably end up picking Aidan up between MK and the Pod as well if you don't mind. It's on the way anyway :)

Also, that McDonalds is half way through a renevation so the car parks closed off. I'm not sure if it'll still be closed on the 10th, but worth keeping in mind. You're probably better meeting in the carpark over the road.
