Bmw Diesel M Car Confirmed (Almost)

Diesel M5 Linky

A potential 4WD diesel with some M power breathed onto it, sounds interesting! So long as they dont brand it as an M car then i dont have any problem with this. Plus i would love to hand it to Colin @ CNL and have him work his magic for me wink.gif

400bhp diesel! Now THAT's my kinda car! B)

Still going to be based on the same ol' 3.0ltr diesel engine (N57D is the current one) though from what i've heard..

Holy Mc jesus! 650lbs ft of torque! Thats like 835ish Nm of torque! Thats almost double mine! I could imagine what it'd be like with a remap, it'd be over 1000nm of torque holy bejsus Batman! 4 wheel drive aswell wtf! Our road tax will go up because there will be no tarmac left with these on the road!

You can never beet the enjoyment and noise you get from a petrol, but it has to be said diesels sure are making some headway!

The numbers are pretty crazy, and whats best is it will probably still return 30-40mpg on a motorway run!ohmy.gif

I'm being lazy as can't be bothered searching, does it have 1 turbo feeding 2 cylinders, or are the 3 turbos in a succession like the 335d?

Twin turbo - 2 x 3 branch manifolds + an "electric turbo" is the blarb as of late.

Those figures look a lot, lot, lot like Piston Head speculation rather than anything concrete.

Regarding those figures though, they look impressive on paper in their purest form.

Put them on paper on a power graph though and it would be different.

400bhp @ 3,750rpm - redline at 4,500 rpm

650lb torque @ 1,750 rpm - redline @ 4,500 rpm

So basically - push pedal, listen to tappets rattle - s**t pants - change gear. All in quick succession.

Still, it has it's purpose in life, plenty of people like motorway shove + reasonable economy (I reckon we're talking 30's at best here)

Why does a M car have to be petrol powered? What will you say when there's no petrol left?

Desial is a by product of petrol creation no?

(here's hoping my gcse fractional distillation has been remembered correctly!)

Yeah unless it's biodiesel!

But still, if Audi can win Le Mans in a diesel why does a M car have to be petrol?

Though I think diesel cars should be banned because particulate emissions are evil.

No diesel comes from the same fractional distillation process as petrol, just at different temperatures.

Unless it's synthetic diesel fuel which can come from biomass or coal.

Agree on particulate output.. Not nice!

BUT, it's got much less greenhouse gas emissions and let's not forget the TORQUE!! :o

Anything that can pull a 747 has got to be cool! lol
