I've owned Mercs before, but I have to say none of them are doing anything for me Have you had a cl or cls, if so can you share your experience I had a shock earlier, shame I didn't have the hiccups really as being told that a new rear windscreen was £549.95 would have cured them Other than that I ordered a few bits from the local dealer. Key Steering flex joint Linkage for the front headlight levelling sensor, since mine is held together with cable ties. TriggerFish Posted September 12, 2015 Report Share Posted September 12, 2015 Fitted the rear windscreen into the E30. Last time Mr. Xen and I did this, it took ages. Maybe over 30 minutes. I did it on my own today in about 3 minutes! Fitted the center consoles back into the car, fitted the driver's seat (the seat heating still works ) and drove it home to do some more work on it tomorrow. It's the first time I've driven it since May last year with any carpet/interior in - it's actually quite nice to drive! I had ideas but dads punto needed a service and checkover before its mot. So thats 2 rear shocks and an exhaust mid box.. Will get a rear box too and change from £100 for that lot... 330CDT Posted September 16, 2015 Report Share Posted September 16, 2015 Broke down last night at 6.15pm. Coolant light came on down the motorway about 30 seconds from my exit. Coasted down a hill, sat in traffic lights saw steam from the bonnet, dived into bus stop and engine off right away. Coolant pissed everywhere, called the AA. Water pump had shat itself, which explains why my belts were squeaking the other day (probably leaking onto them) Apparently the bearings act as a seal on the water pump so it just pissed it all out once it was gone. Bloke turns up, says his shift is about to end, calls another van. This one arrives at 9.25pm (reported it at 6,15 lol) But to be fair to them all top blokes. Had no idea where to get it towed to as all garages etc were shut so took the punt and went home with it. Stricly speaking your not then allowed another tow but I laid it on thick this morning and blagged myself a free lift to a bmw specialists who could fit me in this afternoon! So, I've had a new bmw water pump, he said the belts looked absolutely fine, and while it was there I had both my thermostats done as the car wasn't getting up to temp properly anyway. (70ish degrees) I purchased my stats from bmw a month ago and hadn't gotten round to doing it so all done today! Drive home the gauge was up central within about 3 minutes, and OBC read 94 degrees at the end - this isn't too high is it? Will do a proper test tomorrow on the way to work. Stonesie Posted September 16, 2015 Report Share Posted September 16, 2015 (edited) I collected my new key, as the guy was coding the new key into the central locking he tried to start it with both keys, old one wouldn't start it. So that's no problem now I have a nice shiny new one to use. Also collected a lower steering joint and will fit that tomorrow, shouldn't take long, on the E30 I replaced it with a solid rod. (I remember you asking a while ago.) Mine sits at 89-93 on the OBC, but has crept up to 113 under heavy loads on the autobahn. When standing in traffic in 40c heat, it would rise to about 101-103, but drop once moving again. 94 sounds bang on to me! I can remember breaking* down once, and reporting it when leaving work at 6ish. The guy that arrived rocked up, said 'yep, I wouldn't drive that', so I asked for a tow on his low loader, to which he said 'nah, I've got another job to go to, I'll get someone else out'. What a farce. I finally got collected (I think off my parent's policy in the end) at gone midnight. I went to J&D bmw specialists in Saunderton / Princes Risborough, West Wycombe way. Ah, that sucks haha. I must admit the time it took was long but 3 out of 3 of the blokes were all sound as a pound! Knew their stuff and really efficient. Last bloke was telling me how he used to take his ninja to 160mph in Devon and a police helicopter got sent out for him. I have seen that happen, kind of, while I was getting some stuff at a local parts shop chatting to the owner when a woman walked in and bought 5 litres of oil, a normal enough thing. 5 minuets later she's back, "I need more oil, it's not full yet".... Yep, she'd put the lot in and was trying to fill the engine to the filler cap We pushed it so 2 wheels were up a curb and the shop assistant drained some back out, and showed her how to use the dipstick. 330CDT 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Front tyres will probably need replacing by new year but other than that it just needs a good wash, polish and wax before the crap weather shows it's face ? We will see lol Sent from my LG-H815 My dad has a CL 500. He's had it for about 5 years now I think, he really likes it. A couple months ago one of the suspension legs and the exhaust decided they needed replacing, he's now contemplating buying another one as it will be cheaper than buying the parts. I've only ever been a passenger in it, but it feels really smooth and comfortable with plenty of power! Loads of toys in it too. When he bought it it had a couple of AMG bits on it. Stonesie Posted September 17, 2015 Report Share Posted September 17, 2015 (edited) Today I changed the lower steering coupler and found that the old one looked good, but had slight play in the bearings, I also changed the front headlight levelling link rod as the old one was a bit past it and held together with zip ties. Also changed the N/S brake air duct and fog light, then found the bumper is split on the lower corner... Ho hum. Oh and a cat-back exhaust swap on dads punto. Love both the CLS and the CL. My dad also had the CL500 a few years back. Real luxury barge However the costs of the electrics and perishables was more than he was willing to pay as a non petrol head. so be warned.
