What Have You Done To Your Car Today? Volume 2

Recommended Posts

Shoulda bought a 335d [emoji4]

Anyway, giving my 335d a rest this weekend and thrashing the 120i [emoji4] It's a 10 plate with 16k miles on the clock, needs some bedding in, lol

You know there's always one.

Well been car shopping today, looked at a few audi a4 black editions.

Nice but just not sure what to do?

Need to see my specialist bmw mechanic see what he says then decide to either get rid or fix it. I'll hopefully see him tomorrow.

Replaced the ccv system on the 325, it idles better and seems to have gained a bit of mid range so there must have been a leak, but the sod still conks out at junctions when it's about in the middle of the blue on the gauge... Intake boots were done a little while back so they're Ok.

Currently browsing wheels, it's getting time to get the winters off, 18" CSL reps are the favourite at the moment.

Well the verdicts in.

Timing chain.

Went to my indy specialist he said go straight to main dealers they'll sort it, we've sent loads there it's a know issue.

Popped to main dealers.

Mentioned about "quality enhancement" for this issue.

They said it's now closed as it was only effecting a few cars, asked what about TV program about the same issue.

They had a tech drive the car with me and he confirmed it sounds like timing chain.

They said if I get it checked via the timing chain diagnostic £99 they have never know bmw UK turn one down as a good will gesture. Once checked if it is timing chain they fire off a request for approval and will hear back within 2hrs.

Job will take 7days to do.

Then I popped back to indy and talked through it with him, he drove it and also said it is noisy (which I could hear).

He said he's never had anyone been refused main dealer repair but one guy had to pay £400 towards it, which is OK.

His price to do it (and change clutch and dmf while it's out) is £1500-1600

So it's booked in for diagnostic may as well see what it picks up and see if bmw UK will do it. If not I've made the decision to pay to get it sorted, looked at the fact the car owes me nothing was getting about £8600-8700 trade in plus I've have to pay that again to get the car I'd want (if I replaced the bmw)

No brainer really I think just pee'd off its happened but see what 7th of April brings.

I'll report back.

Good Luck.

Can always make a bit of noise on Twitter and Facebook if they refuse to fix it.

Thats why I'm on Twitter get great results moaning on there.

Fingers crossed mate. They (bmw) said they've had 11/12 plates in as well. All done as good will.

Picked the car up from my mates garage today. New dmf and clutch fitted. Huge difference in the feel of the car. He reckoned it was the original dmf still in the motor at 158k miles.

With the wings done and clutch and flywheel sorted it's actually turning out to be a good week 😀

Unfortunately on Thursday trading it in. I was going to get it fixed but it would always been in the back of my mind "is it coming back?" what's that noise etc...

So I apologize but I got this

2013 19k 2.0tdi black edition

Immaculate condition.

Have really enjoyed the 2bms I've owned but the timing chain issue just finished me off. Don't like the shape of the newer 3 series. So time to move on.

The drive on the audi is completely different from the bmw. Dare I say it? Better.

No using the BMW lane on motorways!!!

I'll just tailgate a bmw as we all know that's what audi drivers are known for [emoji23]

Not directly on the car, but as I'm working in the area I met Joe (Triggerfish) today to collect some bits for the E30. Mainly a black rear parcel shelf.

Thanks again Joe!

I Noticed a smell of burning rubber under the bonnet. Checked drive belts and seemed OK. Next morning power steering was heavy and battery light came on when turning the wheel. Also, temp went up pretty sharpish. Belts were still turning on inspection though.
Turns out it was then crank shaft pulley. More precisely the dampener in the centre. At idle there was enough friction for the pulley to turn but when I touched the accelerator, the crank span inside the dampener. Changed it out and replaced both the belts :)

What a great looking tourer, wheels really suit it. I reckon it'll look even better without the roof rails.

Dropped the 335d off at my dealer for an oil leak. Diagnosed a faulty inlet manifold. But it's going to take 6 weeks for a replacement part! So they've paid Enterprise for 6 weeks of hire car cover!
