330d custom exhaust options?

Recommended Posts

Yeah, but you've got a proper engine! I would do an E30 one which would sound better, but I suspect it would just be akin to watching a load of rust flakes come raining down in front of the camera!

There's a long straight road (where I did brake fade testing with my Polo) on the way home. It has a metal road sign too, so I can stick the GoPro to the sign, rather than having to leave my SLR on the floor/tripod.

I've not got it with me today, but I'll try tomorrow.

I need to get a clip of mine - recently found out that mine is VERY loud from outside the car, and also very undiesel like.

The only brief clip I've heard of yours is when you boot it away from the exhaust place, sounded good though

You got a GoPro or similar?

Sounds well though, a drive-by would be good

Not an interesting video, and the sound on the GoPro isn't great, but here it is. Makes the car look to so too!

Well the Eisenmann is just a backbox, so most of the original exhaust and both cats are still in place, bear that in mind

If you fully de-restrict the exhaust it will sound similar to this >>>

Which is awesome, but not for me as a daily driver!

The best sounding 330d EVER !

although I quite like this too......

Want to get a custom made exhaust for mine

Its got a decat pipe fitted which made a big difference & has now got custom remap

I went to powerflow & got a quote for a 2 1/4 straight through pipe & got quoted £350 which i thought was steep considering what involved

Anyone know of anywhere in Devon ?

Iv just picked up a 330i exhaust with the idea of just cutting the tips of to replace the brewers droop on my 330d,

is it worth doing anything else with it ; eg , gutting the back box, removing resonators etc ?

Mine has had all cats removed along with the centre box removed and it's quiet as anything still, see my (poor attempt) video in post #4 in this thread.

I've got myself a full standard system that I'm going to seperate into 3 sections so I can see if there is any sound differences in different combo's ie no back box or cats and only centre box or just secondary cats and straight through etc. A mate has an 03 plate X5 3.0d with just the back boxes removed and it sounds brutal.. if I can get mine sounding anything like his I'll be happy.

Great info here, I've been trying to decide whats best to do - I don't want anything loud at idle / cruising but to have a bit of a bark to it when giving it the beans. First diesel I've owned so I feel I'm in uncharted territory a little!

Been looking at some very expensive systems, seems modifying the standard pipe is the way to go?

From what I've read unless you get rid of the centre box and / or backbox then don't expect much of an improvement in sound....though I could be wrong? I don't see Scorpion making much of a difference, some people have used Blueflame which is similar and have reported hardly any noticeable change.

You're right though Scorpion is top notch in terms of quality, had a turbo back system on my old Escort RS.

I have a better option now, my mate has come back to me now with my price for full 3" turbo back with one box so will be getting that 100%. He built me full engine back system on one of my past cars and the quality is better than anything else off the shelf, just need to think about if I want to change turbos before it goes Edited by Todd1983

I need to remove my rear silencer! If only the support brackets weren't bolted onto it

Unless you have a completely straight through exhaust from turbo through to the tips, it won't sound 'loud'. The 184 engine sounds louder and more gruff. The 204 is more refined in comparison, but still sounds awesome.

To make up your mind - Disconnect the down pipe and go for a drive to see what I mean! Even then, it's not THAT loud :)

I thought mine sounded awesome with downpipe disconnected but as my other half uses the car at the moment and is funeral director I had to repair it lol

Do the 330d's make the stupid 'pigeon' sound when changing gear at relatively low revs? I'm only asking as i've had a full turboback fitted on another diesel in the past and it used to do my head in with the stupid 'coooo' noise it used to make when it was on boost and you changed gear.
