Sufs' 330d M Sport w/ SMG Paddleshift retrofit but otherwise generally falling apart body ....

When I upgraded to LED bulb's recently, I noticed a LOT of corrosion in the rear number plate lights:

After some googling I tried cleaning with some bicarb/water mix and contact cleaner, some elbow grease, cotton buds and long thin screwdriver, then dried everything off afterwards. It made a "bit" of difference, just something to monitor I guess .. you may want to double check your number plate lights at some point!

Also, before the staff at my local car wash place are forced to leave the UK I thought I'd give them a final opportunity to wash my car .... pics for attention really ...! I suppose I'll have to clean the car myself at some point ....

There is evidence of rust along the sills, and one of the jacking points now sits at an angle - I suspect from when the car was dragged along the floor when the wishbone/balljoint failed ... so I know the clock is counting down on this car .... it still drives brill and handles great, just going to try as many DIY's as I can now before it dies on me .... Wonder which will go first, the auto gearbox or just the body .....

Was in Brum for a few days and so took the car to Tyres 'R Us again. This allowed me to get a few pics from underneath :)

Last few days of holiday so just been doing minor bits to the car. Upgraded the stereo to Android 4.4.4

and the one badge I didn't use stickers on previously to "blacken up" has gone yellow, so it was time to break out the stickers. A couple of coats of lacquer and it was all good:

For no reason (again) I replaced a third EGR/intercooler hose with silicon.

Only one remaining is the inbound to intercooler with the funny metal clip.

Busy day getting ready for Gaydon tomorrow, all in vain as I got tired and the car is a mess anyway from when the wishbones gave up on me ...:

So knowing the car was capable of decent mpg, I booked it in for a dyno run to check out how much power it has after the remap. It's improved from the stock 184HP to 211HP :)

I went down to Surrey Rolling Road again today to check out mycar again, turned out to be quite interesting me. Before me was an M5 which whipped out 370+ HP. Anyway, they popped me onto the ramp and then ........... their dyno control box buggered up ...! Years of abuse in the garage and a wire finally gave up, anyway after waiting around for an hour or so, I finally got measured:

Honestly speaking they were in a hurry and I think they just rushed through to get all the cars through but in general the car is still performing more or less the same for HP, interestingly though Torque is immense at about 460lbs.

Since the last reading, my intake manifold was replaced, few more silicon hoses and cleaned out the intercooler.

Something is up with the rolling road numbers for our two cars! They both seem fairly close in performance, and were mapped by the same people, but you're meant to be making 90lb/ft more than me! I wonder who's in more accurate...

Still, interesting to see. I wonder how much of the different readings in your two runs are down to the work you've done, compared to the 9c intake temp differences?

I sincerly doubt it'll surive a rolling road!

The new or cleaned intercooler and manifold can't have hurt. And there's the Android radio etc. Plus, even if it hasn't made an actual difference, you've learnt while doing it, becoming more self SUFficient for the future.

The e30 is next for that treatment - out of both curiosity for power output and because it's running very rich, and I would like to measure the improvement from upgrading the injectors which i believe, weirdly, fixes the rich running (lower duty cycles or something)

Before Gaydon I "half-detailed" the car so I decided to finish it today, which gave me a chance to try out a new car shampoo:

Followed by polish with DA and wax, and clean the windows with clay bar.

This also gave me time to clean my screenwash filters:

Haven't updated this in a while as non-car stuff has mainly been happening in my life. We moved into our new flat after renting for 5 years :) so car stuff is kind of on hold ...

Anyway, it passed it's latest MOT and the temp sensor is working again! Here's how the car looks now in it's new home:

Congrats on buying mate! I've been saving for a year and a half now and know how much of a struggle it can be. You still local?

I've moved about 2 miles from my last place :) It took us several years (even after selling my old place a few years back). Housing market is rubbish, good luck with your search!
