Ashely1995 - well spotted ! I had just come back from having a capristo exhaust and a full remap, was in with us to have a carbon GT spoiler. Aposlute weapon of a car !

Not a very big update for you but got the rear anti roll bar fitted tonight as the super pro bushings came in the post thismorning, also decided to get new D cups and fixings for good measure, again shame this we'll never be seen but as you have probably already gathered with this build I'm a big fan of the little details.

As far as the steering system goes the plan always has been to make my own power steering system but I put little thought into converting over to a manual system, I have done this on multiple track builds over the years and it has always proved to give far better feel whilst to be honest give no real disadvantages as far as driveability goes, well except parking but that's not really a big issue in my eyes. Granted the wide front tyres is something I haven't tried manual steering with before but I thought I'd give it a go and see how it goes, worst case if I don't get on with it I can build the system as I was going to.

The rack on this car had a little play in it and both track rods where seized sold ! So I went out and got myself a new one, brought it back, striped it, checked it and cleaned everything up.

The initial idea was to loop the rack banjos and that was that, then I came across Hack Engineering and the PAS delete they supply, fantastic bit of kit and a great company to deal with.

Another trip into BMW for fixings and gator clips and I put it all together in the workshop this evening, so far it all feels great, will get on with fitting it on the weekend so will update you then.

So the contol panel now makes so sence with the stickers, loved making this thing and looking farward to having it all working.

That's all the updates for now but I have been spending some small fortunes on parts and head scratching and working out others, hope to have some good updates for you guys soon. The end is kind of in sight !

Had quite a lengthy chat with a friend today about what weight this car will make when it's all together. A standard 328ci is 1450 kg, now I haven't gone as far as putting carbon or fiberglass panels on the car nor have i replaced the rear glass for plastic yet, but I feel that I have got the car as light as I possibly can without going to that stage but I also feel that I have saved quite a bit of weight in other areas that have a hell of alot to loose yet other people don't seam to touch. The only weight added is the cage. I feel 1250 kg is do able, what's you're thoughts ?

I saw a 318 saloon on here, sure it was 800kg or something like that, so with cage and proper engine (lol) surely 1200 is easy enough

Edges - 800 may be a bit over ambitious for me yea lol, 1200 on the other hand though I feel is a possible but may be tight, reading what people are doing to remove weight on m3's is quite interesting, alot of carbon roof's, doors, bonnets ect which yea bring down the center of gravity which is never a bad thing but seam to be neglecting the stuff that realy weighs, the bumpers for example weight a bloody ton, you will know all about it if you have had to lift one ( not going to spoil my plans but yea there not going to be anywhere neer the Standard weight ), everything has to serve a perpous or be removed or lightened as much as possible if it doesn't. Yes you can add more power to compensate for weight but I think that the car needs to feel the best it possibly can so I feel weight is important.

With the rack, it's worth noting, of you're not aware alrwady, the ones with a purple tag and part number ending 067 offer a favourable number of turns and input:output ratio...

My fully built m20b25 engine is less than 200kg, so if that 318I was 800kg, the cage and proper engine wouldn't be 400kg more I'm sure?! I'd guess the 318 was maybe more than 800kg, as that's half what my 330d weighs...

It might have been more, definitely under a ton, it was a good 3 years or so ago I saw it.

Couldn't agree more! Lower weight aids cornering and braking, not just straight line speed!

Bit and peices on the go here got some bits done, really feeling the progress and the car is really coming together now.

The brake line fittings come In to get the rear brake lines done, waiting on the front fittings but now worked out all the routing to take the line a different route avoiding the exhaust.

All rear lines are now fitted but I haven't taken any pictures of the full completed lines, only have one of them running though the handbrake.

Got myself a bumper, roughly worked out how I'm going to mount it without running the bumper support so this is next on the list so it can go for paint.

Another delivery from Hack Engineering with more awesome stuff, converting wheel bolts to studs was a must in my eyes also it allowed me to for the 15mm rear spaces to see how the car will sit in the arch, and to my surprise it still has room with 9.5j with 265 tyres and a 15mm spacer, winner.

Aslo got the dash worked out and fitted, just two supports to make and that's the dash fitted very securely with no movement ready to finish off the dash switch panel ect.

Thanks guys the support throughout the build is much appreciated, just orderd some more bits and peices which will get the electronics underway so I will update over the weekend, I'll also take some more detailed photos of what's been going on as I keep forgetting.

A page or two back I fitted a fuse back to the roll cage which I instantly thought was a stupid idea and nothing like what I wanted or had I'm mind from the start, what I had in mind though proved a very tricky thing to find bit thankfully after a lot of searching I came up gold and found something that would be perfect for what I needed and exacly what I pictured in my mind. It's a fantastic bit of kit and will alow me to wire in the car exactly the way that I want aswell as being very compact in one small light unit, so far I have orderd just 2 inserts, a 20 x micro fuse and a 5 x micro relay, this will get me going to start and I can work out what else I'm going to need from there. It's hard to explain but everyrhing is worked out in my head honest.

Again my appolagises for the lack of updates I have been quite a busy man but still managed to make a good dent in the to do list, even though it might not look a hell of alot the about of reserch into bit and peices, working out the best way to make things work and then putting it into practice  is very time consuming especially when it comes to electronics !

I'll start where I left off last and then work towards to most recent antics, still lots of cool stuff to come but the end is in sight, hopefully this will see track in the summer !

Okay so last off I had my fuse and relay holder though which will house pritty much all the electrical supplys to the whole car, I knew where I wanted to mount it so it was just a case of a bit of sheet metel work and make up a mounting plate.

I needed a way of splitting the terminal 15 and 30 power supplys to where they needed to be so two of these little distribution boxes are perfect, one T15 one T30 and they are mounted on the plate I made above and are completely out of sight.

Away from electrics the door cards came back from beeing wrapped and are now periminantly fitted.

Had a little play with fuel sender and level units and worked all of that side of things out, more will be explained in the future when I come around to it.

Back to electronics, dash ignition, fuel pumps, isolator and start button fitted into the pannel where the CD player would sit, also a picture of how the interior is looking at the minuite.

Battery arrived, went for a varley top 30 which will be ample for what I need, very light and small compared to standard also.

Next up making up battery cables, this will alow me to work out where to fit the battrey exacly. Using a 70mm main supply to the starter, I could have gone smaller but the shortened length has massive reduced weight and I didn't want to interfere with the cranking amps so kept it standard size.

Time to get wiring !!. First off engine loom, brought though the bulk head grommet and all worked out exacly where everyrhing needed to be.

Dme relay, coil relay and engine electronic fuses fitted and are nice and hidden behind the old air bag cover but easily accessible if needed.

Many hours of running wire and working stuff out I have lights, washers, horn are running off the control pannel. The isolator is working, cut off's working and terminal 15 is all running off the ignition switch.

That is as far as the electronics go for now but I have meany more hours of it left but in my head it's all worked out.
