Craig_09
Hi, following on from my other thread on here I am going to remove the injectors myself and get them professionally cleaned. As you face the engine which is Injector 1-6 as labelled in inpa? Number 6 is the bad one in my car. Any tips on completing the job? Can I just use a 17mm normal spanner on the fuel feed to the injectors? If The injectors are tough coming out and I just injector 6, do I need to take the inlet manifold off as the first injector facing the front of the car is outside the manifold, presuming the injector the opposite end will be the same? Thanks
CharlE46
No 1 injector is at the front of the engine and you do need to take the inlet manifold off as you need to remove the fuel line to both the injector your removing and the one next to it (fuel lines cross over and have a bracket between). I've just changed No 3 and used normal tools on the fuel lines etc I was lucky in that mine came out by hand but you may end up needing a slide hammer with an injector adapter fitted. Make sure you have a torque wrench that goes down to the 10-30nm range for re-fitting. Good luck Craig_09
Craig_09
Thanks again CharlE46 you helped me in my selective mass thread! Just got all 6 injectors out, surprisingly easy although my car only has 83k Small pry bar to help injector out Dirtiest injector Although number 6 injector is the only "faulty" one on inpa, All injector are being tested tomorrow and cleaned by a specialist. bungers
Nicely done chap, who's testing/cleaning them?
Craig_09
I've been recommended injector tune but wasn't happy as they can't test the injector at full pressure. Using a company in Cardiff called Tanners Electrics who apparently have all the top of the range equipment and test bench. Been quoted £20+ vat per injector to test and £5 extra to clean. Will update after it's done
bungers
Blimey that's cheap, can they repair them too or just clean?
CharlE46
That's a brilliant price mate, I'll bear them in mind when I do mine. Out of interest did you record the injector numbers so you get them back in order? Dead easy to change the IMA in INPA if needed.
SpanneR
I know where I'm going when I get my baby back if it's that cheap to clean! Only 10 miles from me... Like Bungets asked do they repair them also?? Edited June 11, 2014 by SpanneR
Craig_09
CharlE46 - Yeah I recorded the numbers so I can put them back in order.. I thought the price was good.. Going down at 1pm with the injectors and will have a chat to them about their services and will update! JasonK and CharlE46
Craig_09
Ok, had phone call injectors are all done and ready to collect .. Does anyone know the correct torque for them?
CharlE46
That's great news, bet you can't wait to have it all back together. I can't remember the exact figure off the top of my head but it can be found in the BMW TIS system. I can dig it out tomorrow afternoon if you can't find it before hand, can't do it any earlier unfortunately.
CharlE46
Thinking about it you may find there's a copy of the TIS somewhere on your discs you got for INPA, guess you got the full version with DIS, NCS etc
Craig_09
Haven't got a copy of TIS only inpa Anyone else know the torque setting would like to get it finished today Thanks
CharlE46
Right I'm up (currently working nights) and have just checked my TIS, the settings are as below (and what I used) Injector nozzle into cylinder head 9nm Pressure lines 23nm Inlet manifold to cylinder head 15nm You'll love the first start up/drive, the difference was huge when I did mine. Craig_09
Thanks again Charlie, all back together starts perfect and idles smooth! Been for a quick drive and all seems great! Will have to report back about the hot start issue I was having as that only happened every few days! Number 6 injector now 0.22 on inpa instead of nearly +5 Can highly recommend tanners electrics in Cardiff! Only problem was that they didn't have the copper washers in stock (would take a day) so I bought from BMW £4 each Cheers CharlE46 and The_Judge_
chocka
Will this eliminate the smokey start up that we all seem to experience in winter?
chebmw
This seems like a good route for me, Just email Tanners to see about their service. My car has 190K miles on the clock and injectors are making it a non driver at the moment.
