SteVR
Run one on mine with an M3 bumper duct to supply the filter. 20bhp gain is massively unrealistic. Cannockwolf
simonlpearce
Lol 20hp from a filter alone, what a load of c**k! Cannockwolf
AlexSchof
Mstyle sell them for like £400 haha
the_driller
I had one of them. They look sexy. But they sap power. Oem airbox is ftw for performance Sent from my GT-I9500 using Tapatalk
BlueCS
Dinan airbox = best of both worlds.
DonB
I've one on my 325, again it's only for the noise and look I have it. Had a Simota before, definitely a different sound to that. The filter in the afe I have is the dry filter, easy to look after. I bought mine direct from the US
Cannockwolf
if the best bmw can come up with is 5bhp for their performance air box then these aint giving 20bhp lol
SteVR
Agreed will be more like 2-5bhp. These really need the additional air feed to them in my opinion, hence the m3 brake duct. I have also placed thermal shielding around the header tank.
Daviee
The bit that gets me with this, is that you can add an replacement filter for £42, so the other £170 is for what, a heatshield? Add a panel filter and turn the wing side of the airbox into swiss cheese
DonB
There's the lid and the billeted adaptor that fits on the maf too
the_driller
More like minus 5 horsepower. I say again standard airbox is better for performance this looks and sounds nice Sent from my GT-I9500 using Tapatalk
SteVR
standard airbox is ok however bmw proved that it can be improved on with the bmw performance item. With an additional airfeed and heat proofing the afe works well. Throttle response is improved and top end feels much better, I guess some of this is attributed to the sound track though! I have a standard airbox with a k&n panel filter and much prefer the afe set up.
the_driller
Nah b******s im sorry lol. I ran both standard airbox is better imo ofc. But tbh on a dyno there would probably be so little in it to tell. Sent from my GT-I9500 using Tapatalk
jammo
I've got a dave.f kit on mine, which I did for sound, and no power gains expected. Stuck some rpi air scoops on to force through more air and although some of you won't believe me the car does have better performance when driving at speed. DonB
I have wondered if I should buy a set of those...think I will. Probably only makes a difference past a certain speed?
bry1990
I've got one. Sounds great. Not sure about BHP gain but definitely didn't have any adverse effects. Anyone know where I can get a replacement filter for it? UK based preferably.
jammo
Donb I notice the difference at at carriageway speeds....60 mpg and above she just seems that bit more willing to go! It's probably more throttle response then anything but I certainly noticed 60 to 80 was a lot quicker DonB
DonB
Thanks, the ones made by RPi are very expensive though. Might see about an alternative somewhere
jammo
I got mine £20 second hand but a lot of people have fabricated their own!
the_driller
You guys who have noticed a performance upgrade were probably replacing dirty filters. Also to get any kind of "forced induction" setup you'd have to have a very direct setup to the cyclider head with a huge intake stuck out the bonnet (which would probably only work after speeds of 100/150mph anyway) taking into consideration you are effectively trying to pressurise a vacuum. The oem setup has more bends than speghetti junction - you can forget pressurising the system with some sheet steel pmsl. jammo
Actually mate my panel filter was 2 weeks old when replaced with my dave. F kit I then ran that a few months before adding the scoops and feeling a obviously noticeable gain at carriageway speeds
the_driller
No way of prooving it either way so we will have to agree to disagree Sent from my GT-I9500 using Tapatalk
jammo
No you are right! But I'd always welcome a go in my car personally I bought them for looks, not gonna lie and the fact that any extra cold air that gets pushed through will always be a bonus!
