AA1986
Hi All fairly new to the forum myself but have been kicking around consuming the endless information available on here, which is great! I have some issues with my BMW e46 330CD 2005 - real love hate relationship with the damn thing! Recently i've noticed that when acccelerating the car hesistates at around 2,000 RPM.. its hard to describe but it kind of has a glitch at 2K and seems to lose power, sometimes after accelarating through the range it will go away and other times it feels like theres no power! Wonder if anyone has seen this behavior with their diesels? Thanks in advance!

bungers
Your best bet is to get INPA or DIS plugged in to check for any error codes. Sounds boost related to me. StuBeeDoo
chocka
My money is on the Swirl flap actuator, try unplugging it and see if it cures it. JasonK and Todd1983

AA1986
Thanks for your replies guys.. Abit of background - i've had the EGR cleaned and swirl flaps removed very recently - also the swirl flap actuator had been disconnected at that point (i was getting fault codes so was advised to keep it unplugged) I think it could be boost related - It has been giving intermitent boost - feels dead to the world sometimes and then at times its a different car altogether, annoying! I will check the hoses.. what would be the best way to approach getting for split hoses??
bungers
They'll likely be oily or sooty around any split. See what it's like with the EGR disconnected as mine smoked a lot less unplugged.
coop
maybe they didn't connect the vacuum hoses back up properly after swirl flap removal, or the inlet manifold isn't sealing against the engine properly if they've chucked it back on in a hurry, or an air leak around the swirl flap blanking plugs they've fitted
AA1986
Thanks for your responses - this helps. The car is a money pit, i dont think i have had a good clean few months where there have been no problems! getting a new problem now where in the morning when it is cold and i turn the steering wheel i get a noise which i can compare to meat getting cut in a butchers, like a dry noise, this noise disappears once it is warm. I will take the car to my local BMW specialist, see what he says.

AA1986
Hello fellow e46ers! Right a small update and more frustrations!! i had the fault codes read and nothing sticking out. Unplugged MAF and the hiccups dissappeared - great - must be the MAF right? swapped over the MAF - reset adaptations and cleared faults - and the hiccups re appear!!! So does this sound like a process of elimination? what other parts would i change to eradicate the problem? it sounds to me and my mechanic its a case of educated guessing but i would hope someone has had the same issue before. Todd1983
I had the same when left the swirlflap actuator unplugged after removing the inlet. Plugged back in and it cured it, try it out. You can get to the plug with everything in place baring the covers, albeit it's bit fidley Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Edited May 26, 2015 by Todd1983
