Bamse Report post Posted September 13, 2015 Does anyone know of any around 'preferably video'? Would like it to look as standard ad possible.
Zonda_ Report post Posted September 13, 2015 Why? If it's not there it'll fail on emissions so you may as well just fit a cat bypass pipe.

Larry D Report post Posted September 13, 2015 If its a welded on unit, you need to cut the cat off, stick something like a long pry bar inside, smash all the guts out of it, then weld it back on.
Jim27 Report post Posted September 13, 2015 If you're talking about getting the welder out I think it'll be easier to cut the cat out, cut it open lengthwise (so basically cut it in half front to back), cut/dig out the contents and then weld it back together, refit and sleeve/weld the cut pipes over. I had a mate you tried bashing the internals out of a cat - wasn't exactly an easy job lmao. It's also worth looking at what the cat contents are. Some cats contain precioud metals and can be sold, which would cover the cost of a straight-through decat pipe...?

I presume he's doing it so when it comes Mot time, the visual check will allow it to pass.
Bamse Report post Posted September 13, 2015 Do you cut it open along the seam or on top?
Bamse Report post Posted September 13, 2015 Kinda Jay. Its what I was advised to do instead of getting a straight through down pipe
Jim27 Report post Posted September 13, 2015 I know people who've cut it open along the top (sort of cut a "hatch") so it isn't visible when welded and refitted. 1 Bamse reacted to this

dooge Report post Posted September 13, 2015 If you are planning on decatting a diesel e46 they have two cats, a bought decat pipe will just remove the main restrictive first cat so shouldnt fail an MOT. Ecotune will sell you one for £130ish and buy back your old cat for £80 if its genuine BMW. Otherwise I would take it off, cut it along the top, pull the inside out, straight pip through and weld back over.
Bamse Report post Posted September 13, 2015 So cut along the top is the best place to cut cut it. Thanks
