grantmacdee
So I was on here recently, I did own a 46 compact ended up in hell with that and selling it as a non runner. Had an E36 touring as a mileage muncher, done some maintenance work on it and lowered it and ended up selling it, wish I still had it now if I'm honest as a 2nd car. Anyway sold that, had a MK5 R32 Golf for a bit, very expensive to run and then found out to my delight that my partner is pregnant. So here I am in an E84 20D X1.. My E36 photos were from when I had a fancy camera, may get another just not as expensive, fell out of the hobby over a period of time and couldn't reason as to why I needed to sit on such an expensive bit of camera so sold it on Anyway.. Pictures from when I 1st got it.. Took the car to my mates to give it a bit of a clean.. Iron X is always fun! Couple photos how it stayed for a while.. Picked up some X5 wheels, just a bit bigger and wider than the original X1 wheels They originally came on 285 50 19 tyres on a 10J wheel ET45 (REARS) & 255 45 19 tyres on a 9J wheel ET48 (FRONTS). I took the rears down to 255 35 19 & the fronts down to 225 40 19. Also put 15MM hubcentric spacers all round. Can see in this photo I need some lowering - as I have a kid on the way I'm not going coilovers yes as trying to keep costs down. Yesterday I went to Euro Car Parts to pick up some service parts as I have had the car 4K miles now and can never trust a stamp in a book.. - 8L Magnatec Oil & Filter - Bosch Oil Filter - Bosch Fuel Filter - Bosch Pollen Filter Not that I was surprised, but Euros managed to give me a wrong filter for the oil... Managed to get one the right size but this had to be Mann rather than Bosch, but had to do.... My mate Beau putting in the new oil Pollen filter was filthy - could really do with taking this back off and giving a clear out just behind, but this can wait for now.. My mate Beau's car Also had my tracking done at Elite in Essex today, mainly for a toe adjustment.. Alot better now but I'm almost certain the wheel isn't dead central. Aiming to have the car lowered soon on H&R springs and having this work completed at EMP in St Albans. Having my wheels refurbished at MJR Vehicle Repairs in Canvey Island, Essex. But they are being sent off to be Acid Dipped. Black grilles from BMW and bulb upgrade all round. I have taken off the X1 badge from the rear and the 2 badges on the side doors for the S DRIVE 20D. Need to get the rest of the glue off but I will do this tomorrow I got bored in the end and need to clean the car! Ashley1995
Nice one, love the fact this is a 'baby on the way/family car' yet it's being modded already [emoji6] like it! Daz 330 Cs
The rims look great on there. Cool pics. Ps. Mann are one of the biggest players in the filter market

I realise they're are fairly big in the market just wanted to try and keep it to one brand but it failed anyway ha. Will be getting a pipercross panel filter to replace the air filter too. StuBeeDoo
X1 is probably what I should be looking at replacing the 330d with, when the time comes. Trouble is that after 15 years, and counting, with 6-cylinder cars I don't think I could live with a 4-potter. grantmacdee
momo
Nice! My missus wants one of these.. How come you went for such narrow tyres for the X5 wheels though? Looks like you could go way wider if you wanted?

But we do have the 23d here the 2 litre twin turbo diesel model, with x drive and a remap would probably give your 330 a good enough run.. 204BHP standard.. I'm 20D s drive and im 177bhp.. No 330D but not terrible. Nice! My missus wants one of these.. How come you went for such narrow tyres for the X5 wheels though? Looks like you could go way wider if you wanted? Because of the width, putting 10J wheels on a x1 and chunky tyres isn't the best, theres a bit of room but I am lowering it on springs soon so just helping with clearance. Then I may get 265 next time round for the rears.. Edited October 11, 2015 by grantmacdee
bennno2005
I must admit I find it a bit strange that you are planning to lower it....doesn't that sort of defeat the object of choosing an X1 over a 1 series. Looks tidy tho.

Looks tidy tho. Not quite. They are bigger than a 1 series plus a bigger boot and shorter than a 3 series touring. If I had a 1 series or an x6 i would lower it [emoji1] Plus the x1 will still have more ground clearance than the 1 series once lowered Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Edited October 19, 2015 by grantmacdee

grantmacdee
Right so finally a time for a bit of an update I guess.. Although not complete after a couple set backs. Gave the car a clean up at a friends house, nothing amazing, paint still needs correcting but gave the black paint a boost and now the car beads in the rain. Ordered some tyres from Tyre Leader. Ordered Toyo Proxes T1 Sports, but only my 2 fronts have arrived so far. 245/35/19 for the front and I am due 2 275/35/19 for the rear. Picked up my wheels from my friend Jake over at MJR Vehicle Repairs in Canvey Island, Essex who painted the wheels 2K Super Black. Anyway I popped to my mate Beau's house for some coilover fitting none the less. Bunch of photos from the day which took longer as most of his tools were at his work. Bumper Damage from an inconsiderate **** somewhere along the line. So this is how the car sits currently.. I did buy 15mm spacers for the front at 12mm for the rear but the front is scrubbing on the shock slightly so jumping up a size and putting the 15mm spacers on the rear to equal it out. Hopefully my 2 rear tyres turn up as soon as possible and I am currently driving with wheels Ashley1995

grantmacdee
A driver slamming on brakes at a green traffic lights for no reason, causing the car in front of me to emergency brake and swerve as i was changing lanes, caused me to rear end another car! Not best pleased as you can imagine, waiting to speak to a claims handler tomorrow from my insurance. Insurance being insurance this is going to go against me too which is a PITA! grantmacdee
So I spent yesterday at a mates house, trimmed back some of the arch moulding and rear arch skim to stop the scrubbing, also removed the 15mm spacers for now. Few pics. Took the front plate off and attempted to start removing the doubled sided tape left over but it was stuck on tough. So acquired a toffee wheel at work and will remove it that way later on today. Everywith was sanded and smoothed off and the mouldings were put back on tiger seal where cut and cable ties for now for the holes where the plastic rivets were, ordering those from BMW. With the rear spacers off the car actually feels better in corners on the A roads to. Will be getting cleaned up Friday for Goodwood on Saturday for players classic event. grantmacdee
Went to Goodwood Motor Circuit yesterday. Cleaned the car briefly Friday after work.. Couple from the show that I have came across.. This photo was taken before the wheels were wiped down. Oh and I forgot to apply tyre shine. Amateur mistake. Have bought an oil filter from BMW and some Millers Oil from OpieOils so will get that changed this week. Will get a tyre changed over and hopefully get my new plastic pop rivets put in this week too. This Saturday coming I am heading to Waterstock in Oxford for a show too.
