Would be nice to replace. in an E46 i've seen a few things that its a separate unit, that you can replace the lid only, etc. So for consistency, has anyone ever done this? where can you get the part, and HOW? seems like its connected to the accessory tray as well, so is it a case of replacing the whole thing? Mugs Posted March 5, 2016 Report Share Posted March 5, 2016 i have just done this. it's easy, remove ashtray unit, prise the old one out from each side and fit the new (one side at a time) - just make sure you take note of how the spring fits as you have to get it in the correct place from behind the unit so look at it, take photos if necessary as if you get it wrong it won't spring open. i got my spring in place with a small screwdriver.
