Manifold help required please

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, hoping I've not made a mistake here.....

I've bought a set of manifolds from a breaker on eBay, it's a 2000 328i saloon.

Turns out these have the M52 engine in, will the manifolds bolt up to my 330ci M54 engine ???

I know they won't align with the rest of my exhaust system without a slight mod but will the clear the steering rack and bolt onto the head ?

they should fit but depends mainly on the stud pattern on your engine and the manifolds, are they like these below?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-3-SERIES-323-328-E46-1999-2000-2-5-2-8-EXHAUST-MANIFOLD-with-Lambda-/172134046547?hash=item2813fd1b53:g:A~cAAOSwvgdW5wiH

also do they have the lambda's fitted?

Ok been having another think.

The 328 headers I have will mate to this full system

Will that system fit onto my chassis ?

If it does I may as well buy it and get the CATS mapped out as I'm looking at getting it mapped now anyway ?

Thoughts please guys, thanks.

You won't be able to join that system to your new manifolds, it looks like it's designed to connect onto the new manifold with cats in them.

you will need some downpipes like off this system, you could easily mate these with the original style by welding some flanges onto the lower section of the downpipe.

Ah I see, hadn't noticed the different flanges, thought it was just a generic pic but the seller has confirmed its the actual item.

Going to talk with my welder and see if he can cut and shut the existing manifold flange onto the cat-less manifold

Dropped the car and manifolds off to an exhaust fabrication shop.

They're going to make the 328 manifolds mate up with my original system [emoji106]

Rich, what year is your car ? I hadn't looked at my original manifold but these pictures I found online shows another lamda just after the cats !

I'm worried it's going to throw a EML now and go into limp mode all the time.

mine is a June 2003 model, the original manifolds do have both pre and post lambdas fitted.

you will need to either relocate the post lambdas further down behind the secondary cats or map them out,

my system is an Alpina B3.3 system which has the fittings for the post lambdas further down under the car directly behind the cats, i just had to relocate them and extend the looms (i made some extensions using some my old lambda wiring so it was all plug and play).

picture of the cats on the Alpina exhaust (borrowed from Kos!)
