RichS
One of the most annoying things about this touring is that it only had one key when i bought it, and it didn't work!! Seriously, it literally only started the car - it just span in the barrel and the remote element doesn't work. So three weeks ago i bought a cheap eBay lock repair kit (about £5) which came and i then spent hours watching the YouTube video tutorials.... and i set about fixing it. I hurt my hand, cut my fingers, broke a few nails and put it down and picked it back up for about 4 hours in total over the three week period.. and i can't bloody do it. Today I thought I'd give it one more chance and this time everything went into place perfectly and i took it out and refitted it to the car and OMG my car now locks and unlocks on the key! This is the best piece of DIY i have ever done!! The remote part still doesn't work but now i have a working door lock I can go and get a replacement key cut and coded from BMW for £140 all in and I'm set. I'm ecstatic, I can't stop locking and unlocking it!! The_Judge_, Ruesta, Megadodo and 4 others

Is all about opportunity cost - adding in diesel cost and time it costs me it makes better sense to get a genuine one from a local dealer with a two year guarantee. I think £140 and the fact i get it back in two days is a pretty good price for the genuine item. Markxr

Should only take them an hour at most to cut and program a key Took bm keys about 20 minutes to do triggerfish one

That's what i meant by opportunity cost. Markxr
The_Judge_
Rich, so what exactly can this key do? It can only unlock by turning in the door barrel itself? But the buttons can't lock/unlock by remote? Have you tried this:

Megadodo
It's nice to have that second key in the house somewhere, just in case you lose your one and only one! If the new key doesn't program in you may have an antennae or duplexor box issue. I'm not saying you did get it wrong but you do have to be quite precise in the sequence & timing of the key programming so if it doesn't work first time, try again. Remember that programming one key in will take any others out unless they are programmed in at the same time. Best of luck. Daz 330 Cs
Craig's guide above does work. I had a replacement key when I had my Cs, the chap from the Stealers came out to the car and programmed the key in a few seconds. The process was so quick I couldn't say how he did it

And I reckon it's dead. At least the door lock now works!!
RichS
So a stressful few months in my life with signing the pub deal and then this touring's turbo forking the engine... but you can't say I'm a quitter!! A good secondhand engine was sourced and fitted, X5 wheels put on and the replacement key and lock barrel have all been done and the car flies once more... and looks the dogs too! What do you reckon?! Oh, and both my cars now have extremely similar number plates I love a bit of OCD:) I'll get a picture of them together some time soon I hope!! RMJ
Good for you sticking with it Rich, and look at the results! Im looking forward to checking it all out when we have the meet! (nice touch with the plates too!)
Ruesta
Looking good mate. X5 wheels really suit a touring, glad you fitted them. Good on you for replacing the engine too, better than another decent car ending up in scrap yard. L16RYE and RichS

Crying out for lowering springs It definitely needs a drop as there is LOADS of room under there, and no rubbing at all. But this is a workhorse, Daz, and it has already cost me thousands more than the asking price to keep it moving and it was never meant to be a looker - I have the vert for that! And I quite like the bouncy look of it:)

dontpannic
Good news on the engine front. I must be in a minority as I'm not convinced on the X5 wheels myself. Can't pinpoint why though! Maybe a little too big for the car? I'm not sure lol. Looks good anyway Rich, good work! RichS

I think the widest you can have on the rear is a 235/35. Yes the 10 is a fat wheel but the offset is good. It's only half inch wider than a 9.5J which go on so easily. ( 1/4 each side ). Now get the trolley jack out 👍😂 Rich, did you go with 225/35 fronts and 235/35 rears on the tiger claws? I'm not a fan of the 'stretched', how do the rears look?
