Like the grills

i can see this thread costing me money have been looking for mv2s on ebay today lol

Where do you live, dude? If I test fit some part worns on my tiger claws then these may be up for sale. They have 1000 mile used Uniroyal Rainsport 3s on them all round in the correct staggered fitting. Interested? Not sure of a price but the tyres cost £350.

Looking forward to seeing this thread develop Rich - especially as it's just the dogs boddy backup tourer that you won't be spending any money on (hahah !)

Suf, tell me about it!!! I will be trying my hardest not to spend anything, or very little, but it's just so hard! I have a natural "want to improve things" type of gene in me.. and this extends to everything within my reach:)

I THINK i may well chuck a set of part worns on the tiger claws and see if by magic they'll fit and look good as a plug and play option. If not then I will happily stay on the MV2s... but nothing else!!!!!

This was supposed to be a cheap big runabout for my new business and i just can't stop myself spending money, goddammit!!

The car is having a little holiday with my local german specialists where they are blanking the swirl flaps, removing the EGR cooler, replacing the crank case breather with the later vortex type  and sorting the large water leak.... to get it sorted for use, no more!

So I nip in there today to let them know they don't need to rush as I don't need the car back today as previously agreed and they thanked me lots as they've had a few rush jobs in so mine is not as far along as they would have liked. No problem, but was nice to see that the car was stripped a bit and a couple of their guys had dirty fingers!

They've found a diesel leak that I could smell and will be a cheap fix but one the guys asked about mapping it and I said it didn't need it as it was the 184bhp not the 204 so no faults or codes would be thrown. But he looked at me and said he didn't mean that, he meant i really should map it and have some fun! B4st4rd, so much for not spending money - the guy is going to stage 1 it for me!!

Oh well, it will be a fast big not so cheap runabout!!

Flippin' hell, Daz, I've only just gone and bought 15mm spacers.... I guess I'm committed to trying out the tiger claws now :)

Only just seen this Rich, yes 15mm on the fronts, you bought hubcentric didn't you ? I'm sure the rears will be fine without although I had a 5mm non h/c on mine.

Thanks dude. The 15mm hubcentric spacers just arrived.

Daz, not sure if you saw my vert post but one of my twists cracked and I'm at a bit of an impass. Probably going to sell them on, I don't like the uncertainty with them as they make loads of headlines with rims cracking constantly. And I've only had them on about 6 weeks already.

I did see it Rich, meant to reply there and then but was eating I think :D

Get it welded, I cracked one of my ISR10s due to too slim a tyre 255/30. Had it sorted and zero issues since. Now running a 275/30 and looks much better.

Lost confidence in these particular rims, mate. Just feel like if I get this one done then another happens I will kick myself. I've already got a buyer interested in them (have declared the crack) and I can recoup the cash I paid.

Oh but if you sell them you'll be down to ONLY 2 sets, everyone needs 3 right ? Ha.

Sure, I get what you're saying. If you can get good money for them it makes sense I guess.

I've no idea why these crack so much, it's well documented online as you say. With E9* rims it's generally due to runflats. These came on SE spec E9* didn't they ? Same offsets as MV4.

I've just done a deal on a set of E46 fitment style 32's with good tyres at half the price I can get for the twists so just working out how to collect and deliver them all! And I have some cheap tyres from eBay coming for the tiger claws to go on the touring. When did my life become about managing wheels???

Mapping is worth it Rich, took me long enough to get it done on mine, no regrets now :) Hopefully they do a good job! You should get about 215-220Hp after the map :)

I'm on 7 sets now! 😕

You can't go wrong with a set of style 32s either!

Yeah, I know it's all good and I'll love it!! But this car was not supposed to be receiving all this attention!!

I nipped in to see how my German specialists were getting on with the car today and a day ahead of schedule it was sitting outside and ready to go! Ermmmm now I know I normally need my cars back quicker than they can do them but I wanted it back tomorrow, I can't collect it today! Doh!! So they've done all the work and took it to a local specialists who has stage one mapped it to 235bhp and 450nm torque, I think. I'll check the figures tomorrow but they said it drives and feel awesome. Can't wait!

I've got to head to Birmingham tomorrow to sell my vert wheels so I'll let you know all about it after a 200 mile round trip.

BUT I need two parts to finish it. I need a coolant level sensor and a rocker cover. I think the coolant sensor is built into the expansion tank - is this right and has anyone got one? And my rocker cover has a damaged corner where a leak is growing. Anybody?

Sorry for whatever weird quote my phone leaves here!

The sensor is a cheap part new and clips into the expansion tank - they're not the same thing. It goes in to the bottom, so coolant will need draining and bleeding.

Rocker covers are a pain. The injectors go through them, so they're not easy to replace. I've got one, but it's currently on my engine still and I don't know if I'll be able to get the injectors out to remove it. I do have a brand new genuine BMW rocker cover gasket that I never fitted (as I never got the rocker cover off) if you're in need. I think it was £35 from BMW to give you a ball park.

Unless it's pouring oil out I'd be inclined to just leave it.

Yeah, just found the sensor online for less than a tenner and you can fit it in with without draining the tank as it is a separate thing. So I'll leave the rocker for now, have seen some for £50 ish on eBay so can get it done later when needed. Thanks Joe.

Am looking forward to some mapped action tomorrow:)

The tank will be drained - removing it will leave a hole in the bottom of the tank while you swap sensors. Unless you can pause gravity, the contents of the header tank will exit through that hole :)

Plus, there's a coolant hose that can block removal that you may need to disconnect too.

Thanks Joe, that's what I thought and then I read this post: http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=817450

Looks like it can be fitted without draining. Is not a big deal if it needs draining and bleeding again but I had hope of a very quick/easy fix without getting wet:)

Ah, my bad. I stand corrected! You might still run into issues with getting it past the lower hose, but hopefully not.

No worries, I'll see what I can do. Just ordered the part and was only £8.

In other news, I'm getting cheap tyres in place for the X5 rims to be put on the touring. Had 2 x 235/35/19's arrive this week and am about to order the fronts... am looking at 225/35/19's so will probably have them by the end of the week. Madness!

Weekly update...

I bought some very cheap budget tyres for the tiger claws and have dropped them off to get put on the rims in advance of getting the wheels swapped over this week sometime. I'm not sure what to do with the MV2s as they are the vert's original wheels so I may put them back on the vert and sell the emergency style 32s on there.... and then get some new wheels for the vert!

The touring is being a constant drain of cash at the moment but it is mainly routine maintenance items that hasn't been done on it and I remember feeling this s**tty when I got the vert... but now I have a car that is running so well so this work needs to be done for the touring then I'll be on top of it.

I had a smoke test done on the touring (as it feels like there isn't enough boost) and the test showed up a big leak around a broken corner of the rocker cover so I've ordered a good secondhand one from eBay, along with a new gasket set at the same time.

The jury is still out on replacing the glow plug module as the car does start, but it annoys me a bit that it takes its time on occasion.

Ill put up a picture when the new wheels get fitted.

And finally, a new private plate has arrived to go on this car. My OCD kicked in and I a bought a similar looking plate that I have on the vert. The vert has H9BPC and I managed to find (very cheaply) H19BPC for the touring. I'm such a t**t, but I don't care 😎
