momo Posted February 17, 2017 Report Share Posted February 17, 2017 (edited) Evening all.. Getting VERY annoyed with my car now! Just changed the whole rear suspension and RTABs.. It's only been a week and now i'm getting "5E20 Pressure Sensor 1" failure.. Looking online it seems as though it's part 34521164458.. Anyone know where to get them for the best price? Has anyone changed these before? Is it a ball ache to do? Been quoted £250 (inc part) to replace one from a local BMW specialist.. That seems crazy! Front one (I think that is sensor 1 but it's easy enough to check) ie the one nearest the headlights is easy....rear is harder to get to. Never seen them that expensive before. I was quoted about 100 plus vat from BMW. In the end I took a chance on a second had one from eBay. 18months on still perfect! Cost 15 quid! Might get it, and get my mechanic mate to fit while they do the brake fluid change. Seems VERY expensive for a sensor though.. Amazon also have one for £40 which is used and apparently in working order. Might send them a message. I've just spent £500 replacing all the suspension bits recently so this is a bill I didn't want! AndyC_67 Posted February 17, 2017 Report Share Posted February 17, 2017 If you have the scanning software (inpa) remove one plug at a time from the sensor. At some point it will throw 2 errors then you can see which one is which....ie when you remove the plug from the good sensor. Takes 2min. AndyC_67 Posted February 17, 2017 Report Share Posted February 17, 2017 (edited) Yeah you do lose some fluid (can be minimised if you're quick on the change over!). No need to drain the fluid reservoir. Always best to bleed system after anyway. Oh make sure you put a rag under the sensor to stop getting fluid on you paintwork!! Did you replace both sensors or just the faulty one? A lot of people say if one failed the 2nd is likely to give up soon too - but at £120 each for new - doesn't seem worth replacing both? I was short of cash at the time and took a chance with the second hand one. What could have been expensive was fixed for about 15 quid. If you have the cash and you are getting fluid changed its probably best to do both.....it's your call really. The fault would show for a day or two, then go out for the rest of the year. I just never bothered to change it. Yeah it's only just appeared today. I hooked it up to Carly and cleared the fault, but it came back. Every time I turn the car off, then start it again after a few mins it does the usual pre-start check, the lights go out (all of them as usual) then after about 100yds or so the central triangle and handbrake lights come on in amber. I've asked bmminiparts and cotswold for quotes - a recent (mid-2016) post on the cutters forum suggests cotswold want ~£95 each - for genuine BMW ones it's probably worth getting them instead.. Anyway, I've never needed it, so not the end of the world. I'd be surprised if Bosch didn't make them - I suspect it's a common mk60 part, which is shared over several manufacturers (vag, at least). As I say I've not seen anything from Bosch (or anyone) to say that this is the equivalent replacement part. From what I've seen so far it's a choice of either genuine BMW, used, or cheap fake sensors that will probably last a week.. Lol Sure looks like it'd fit! The one starting with 345111... is for the E38. So it's genuine BMW from BMMiniparts or Cotswolds, or used.. Boooo!! Start the car and no lights, then they come on after a few secs. No TRC or DSC (which is fun! lol). Something big might be coming up soon so holding off getting this sorted! It'll need to get fixed either way, but depending on that something else I might go for the genuine BMW sensors or I might settle for used!
