AndyC_67
Just a thought. Have you checked the connectors for corrosion & giving them a clean? I remember being told that and for some reason it actually worked for a while. It's free.....give it a go!! momo
momo
I've not, no! Good shout! Tbh i've not even looked at the master cylinder or even in that region since it first happened.. lol I'll have a look tomorrow when I get a moment. momo
Had a good look at the master cylinder today and around that general area. Apart from some road grime it's pretty clean.. The lights now come on as soon as the car starts, it sometimes doesn't even wait until it's driven for a few secs like before so it's deffo had it.. It's not going away, it'll need to be replaced. I'm happy to drive it as is for a little while.. It's actually MUCH better pulling out of junctions without the stupid TRC kicking in and spoiling the fun! B.Merr
Hi - My dash intermittently showed the two orange warning lights for DSC fault a couple of years ago. Sometimes the warning lights would illuminate a few seconds after start up. Like you I balked at paying 200+ for two sensors and was convinced the fault might be linked to air in the braking system (brake fluid flushed a few weeks prior), so drove to a local field that doubles as a little used overflow carpark, did a couple of wheel spins from standing start, also did a couple of emergency stops to trigger the ABS. Repeated with the DSC button both on and off. After this bit of fun exercising the braking system pump those warning lights haven't reappeared. B.Merr
...also this might be worth a try? momo
momo
Interesting! Tbh it IS due a brake fluid change. Was going to get the 2 sensors and do them all together. Might get the fluid changed and give the harness a wiggle as suggested. See if it clears. Thanks mate!
mjn
I had both sensors changed on my E46, plus fluid change. £200 for parts and £50 labour. momo
momo
Yep.. Sounds like that's the going rate to get them replaced.. Cheeky f*cker local BMW specialist wants £250 for ONE sensor.. Not sure where they get off charging £150 labour! Either way, atm i'm still undecided which route i'm taking (new, genuine sensors or used). I won't be getting it done yet though..
mjn
If doing both, easier to remove the fluid reservoir, better access and adds virtually no extra labour doing it that way. momo
momo
Got both my sensors. Heading off to the garage to get them fitted. Before I went I wanted to add some info to this thread. Got the sensors from Cotswolds on the forum here. The sensors that arrived are branded ATE with part number 10.0522-9962.1 Unfortunately I can't find them for sale anywhere outside the dealer network. Plenty of eBay special knock-offs using that part number though..
momo
Thought i'd update this with the fix. Got the sensors replaced. Mechanic pulled the vacuum pipe off the brake servo and wedged the pedal down. That way there was hardly any fluid leakage. Still had to bleed the system once done as normal to get the air out that was let in when the vacuum pipe was removed. Anyway - sensors replaced, lights out. Works SUPERB now!! If anyone is getting overly aggressive DSC/TRC interference then get these replaced! TRC hardly kicks in at all now, only when launching like a mad man!! momo
No problem. Just be careful, I did the same but the fault returned after a short while. If it does then they will need replacing. Get the codes read to confirm though - could be the ABS rings on the rear driveshafts that have corroded
