Eibach sportline or Cheap coilovers.

Recommended Posts

So, I know this is a lifelong debate & although I have searched for the answer to my question all the posts I could find are years old & as we all know things move on quickly.

So i can't decide on sportline springs or coilovers. It's for my saloon, which has standard MV2 with standard size tyres which I will be keeping but adding 15mm spacers to widen it out a little.

If I choose the coilovers route I will set them

To desired height and leave them but i don't want too loose the comfort of the car and end up feeling like I'm 17 again driving my first Clio scraping along the floor.

So that's why I was considering the sportline springs, but my issue with that is that the car has done 150,000 miles so will need the shocks & top mounts replacing also so will work out lots more expensive than coilovers!

Does anyone have recommendations for sub £200 coilovers that are decent & don't ruin how the E46 drives & handles ?

I've done both. On my previous e46 coupe I fitted budget coilovers, it looked great but the ride became tiresome so when I got my current coupe I replaced the suspension with Eibach sportline's and Bilstein shocks plus top mounts etc... I'm so glad I did too, she still looks great with the subtle nose down drop, handles fantastically and best if all still rides great, better than it did with the old OEM stuff in fact, but that did look original so was more than likely past its best.

If you budget allows I personally would steer clear of budget coilovers if you still want a decent ride. Either get some decent coilovers or go down the spring and shock route.

Second that I fitted cheapish coilovers , to my E36 was a cheap fix at the time again it looked the nuts. But was very harsh and killed the car for me. Won't be going down the coilover route for the coupe when the times comes.

I've recently lowered my 2002 Touring on coilovers that cost me £150 off eBay. It's been 2 weeks since they went on and I have no complaints so far. Ride quality isn't all that bad if I'm honest, much better than I thought it was going to be. I'd say take a punt with the coilovers and see how you get on with them.

Don't forget to get some shortened drop links as well

Let’s have this conversation in a year or two, they’re cheap for a reason.
