e46 touring question: what's under the non roof rack rails?

Recommended Posts

I'm removing the roof rack on my (M3 converted) e46 touring. Under the roof rack trim, there are 6 brackets held on by 12 bolts.

The bracket I'm talking about are part #3 in this diagram:

With the bracket removed, there are 12 holes that go through into the cabin of the car, which I can't imagine BMW left unplugged.

On cars that came without a roof rack from the factory, what did BMW use to plug those holes? (all cars in the USA came with roof racks, so I have no reference cars here).

Thanks in advance!
