Updating N42 Bosch ME 9.2. Possible?

Recommended Posts

Hello there,

I have been digging since ages to solve my 2001 N42 symptoms (I know you all are going to howl on me saying 'Leave this crap off and get a 2.5 engine', but it's been a challenge and I want to come to a resolution before thinking of getting a new car).
Actually many things have been performed on this car which is 130.000 Kms now:

- Timing Chain tensioner upgraded (Chain and guides are still in excellent shape, no jumping )
-  Valve Cover Gasket replaced
- Eccentric Shaft sensor sealing gasket replaced
- Valve Solenoids cleansed and their gaskets replaced
- Vacuum pump cleansed and its gaskets seals replaced
- Oil filter Housing profile gasket replaced
- Oil cooler gasket replaced
- CCV Replaced (Not yet the vent hoses which seemed to be fine but ordered new ones to be replaced next week)
- Fuel pump replaced
- Fuel filter changed
- Alternator changed
- Pulleys tensioner replaced
- New LUK Clutch
- New front arms bushings
- new Sachs shock absorbers
- Since Last January only Castrol 5w40  LL04  used.
- Still have ERA Coils and NGK spark plugs which are in excellent shape said the mechanics (No Oil in them)
- Compression test performed 3 times when engine is cold, warm and hot: Got each time same readings:  ~175/178 PSI in each cylinder.
- No OBD 2 error codes whatsoever

After these changes, car felt a little better but I still have the diesel sound between 2000 and 3000 RPM (Especially when in second gear), low power below 2K RPM, rough idle and Throttle is not smooth at all.
After some research I found out most people have cured these symptoms by updating the software. I really do not know how this is done. I have INPA and Torque, but they are not for this purpose.

Can someone guide me please on what tools to get and how to update N42 software.
Thanks in advance
