Not heating correctly, both stats changed.

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am looking for some advise on this.

Since I purchased my 330cd, it never fully heated it. The gauge would sit just shy of 12 o'clock. Mpg at 40 on a long run (my e39 530d used to get near 60 on the same run). I initially changed both stats, although from the local motor factors. The egr stat was a identical to the one removed only bmw was scraped off it.  However the car still didn't get up to temp. Today I replaced the main stat with one from bmw but no change in temperature.

One thing I did notice is that the car wouldn't get up to temp, just ticking over (I had the viscous fan still removed). Even after a drive the gauge would not get to 12 o'clock when ticking over, cabin heater off and no viscous. Should the car not over heat like this?

I also noticed that only the bottom half of the rad was getting warm.

It just seems like something else is cooling the car. The electric fan did not kick in.

Any suggestions greatly appriciated.

I have a similar problem, but ive not got around to sorting it yet.

Was it a genuine bmw stat that you fitted? There is a post a little further down that is similar. A genuine stat was the solution after a pattern part didn't work.

I had it with my wife's TT. Non genuine stat didn't work, genuine sorted the problem.
