E46 Airbag Recall

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I noticed an outstanding vehicle recall on my ”new” car on the Roadtax website and called a dealership with good reviews close to me (bmw mini in Banstead). I also wanted a second key and have them check a few bits on the car.

So the car is booked in on Wednesday next week for the airbag replacement as part of the recall. in addition, the dealership will give the car a free inspection too as a courtesy so they will look at my power steering issue,  yellow check engine light that comes on for a few seconds during cold start (sensor needs replacing I am sure). Also they'll check the brakes and suspension too. The brakes do squeak a bit but I'm not bothered about that. If they're good and know what they are doing , I may get the repairs done there unless they charge a few limbs for the privilege

:lol::lol::lol:

You already know they will!

I'd get the airbags replaced, the inspection (if you want it) and be done with them as fast as I can! lol

Sage advice , I know that's where it will end up and I will hear a recurring ”gbp99.99 plus vat per issue ” mantra from them no doubt !

so it does indeed look like I'll be doing the repairs elsewhere lol

Also don't forget most of these dealerships only have a couple of senior techs. The rest are usually juniors working towards qualifications.

My car is far from mint these days but even I wouldn't let them touch it with a barge pole.

And then add to that I spoke to a local independent garage and found most of the technical jobs from 2x local BMW dealerships are actually outsourced to THEM! They're a mid-sized independent dealership/garage (German car specialist) but they have 30 (yes, you read that right) lifts in the workshop! For good reason! lol

Go to the independent direct and save 60% on labour costs.
