Silver Coupe
Hello all, Am having a mare, purchased some rear calipers, used oem part number, went to fit them and the width of hte sliding pin holes are narrower than the carrier, don't line up at all, supplier said that they are the right part and questioned the ones fitted to my car. Does anyone know if any other calipers and carriers can be fitted to a e46? The ones that came off are BMW, have 957 42/22 on them and a part ref which is barely there. anyone have any ideas what I have? or what has happened? some pics:

Schumacher
Strange. What are the markings on the new caliper? I would say they have sent you the wrong caliper. The 42/22 refers to the piston. Part numbers 34216765883 and 34216765884 were fitted to E46 325/330 and E83 X3 2.0/2.5/3.0.
Silver Coupe
the new ones were ordered against the oem part numbers. what I need to do is work out which bit is wrong. 42mm piston on a 22mm disc from what I have read but I'm stuck on which way to go! Silver Coupe
is there a list of calipers are what E number they fitted them too? I have seen X3 & X5 very similar rear calipers and I wonder, if the carriers bolt up ok, whether that is that has been fitted. A part number on the calipers would be soooo handy right now! appreciate the help
Schumacher
The old calipers were the correct ones that came fitted on a 330. The new caliper must be the issue, that's why I asked what markings it has on it. Part numbers are in my first reply.

I have called them and they say these should fit. How many options are there?
Schumacher
All the info you're asking for is in my first reply. Here, I've done this to show you what the issue is:
Silver Coupe
Ok, so have ordered from another supplier, should be here Monday, Sat at a push. I tried to refit the old ones for now but the bleed nipples rounded, then snapped, so that is that option gone, new ones hopefully will sort. Then it's time for an arguement with the supplier! I ordered it all weeks ago and its been sitting in a pile till today, handbrake shoes, new springs, fixings, new discs, calipers, pads, already done the same to the front, no issues, have some lovely stainless brake lines to fit but the fitting is fused, so looks like new hard lines are needed, fab! Thanks for the info, much appreciated.
Schumacher
This is a prime example of why I avoid eBay . Email them the image I posted. I would have trial fitted the calipers first before painting but I guess you could respray them silver and send them back.
Silver Coupe
I will use that as evidence in my request for a refund and having done the fronts without issue, I didn't even think to try beforehand, the plan, which worked great until this issue, was have it all here, painted and ready to go on in one go, then the brake lines wouldn't come off and after an hour I just gave in and decided to have a garage fit new hard lines in the near future, then did the handbrake bits and then this, only had brakes to bleed and I was done. Poxy ebay.
Silver Coupe
I've learned, after 9 bmw's, e28, e30's, e36 & e46 that its generally a good rule to replace anything original with new bits, rear brakes are the last thing, other than the oil level sender which is in the box ready to go! ow and the oil filter housing gasket, got that too.😀

Poxy ebay. Always best to trial fit things now as parts are generally lower quality i.e. difference in casting of the eBay caliper compared to ATE / BMW. The smallest/simplest jobs end up taking the most time. There's always a screw/bolt that never wants to budge etc. Update the thread with the outcome. 17 hours ago, Silver Coupe said: I've learned, after 9 bmw's, e28, e30's, e36 & e46 that its generally a good rule to replace anything original with new bits, rear brakes are the last thing, other than the oil level sender which is in the box ready to go! ow and the oil filter housing gasket, got that too.😀 Yeah, I agree to an extent but newer parts (especially in this day and age) can fail prematurely.
