AIDAN TORBAY 320 Ci Posted November 4, 2009 Report Share Posted November 4, 2009 Hi Having just ordered a set of angel eyes some one told me they're prone to setting on fire. Has anyone heard of this problem and is it serious? DonB Posted November 4, 2009 Report Share Posted November 4, 2009 Fires caused by CCFLs are fairly well known, but mainly in the states, where they wire them up with a harness and connect them to the accessory wire in the ECU so they're always on. Because of this, I gather, the ballasts tend to fail quite often and melt their connectors, causing fires and charring wires and sometimes headlamp housings etc. Wouldn't let it bother you, but be prepared to have problems with the ballasts at some stage. I went and bought LED array angel eyes because I didn't want any of the associated issues. Alot dearer, but they look 100 x better and brighter. DJ Syxx Posted November 4, 2009 Report Share Posted November 4, 2009 Never heard of them setting fire! As said the only problem you will have with them is the ballasts at some stage will fail. Make sure you purchase from a reputable seller ie Teddy @ SSDD Motorsport or BM Styling as they can supply replacement ballasts whenever you need them. timbob Posted November 4, 2009 Report Share Posted November 4, 2009 back in the days of HTR (some may know what i mean) i was in the office with Joe when a guy bought a set back which had caught fire in his car, luckily he had caught it straight away. that was in the early days of ccfl's and is the only time I'v ever heard of it in th uk. simonlpearce Posted November 4, 2009 Report Share Posted November 4, 2009 Never heard of any catching fire over here but i have cooked a few sets of invertors, i think this is more of a problem if your car is sat for a long period with the angels on as there is no air circulating to cool them down. CNL Remapping Posted November 4, 2009 Report Share Posted November 4, 2009 I have had Angel Eyes in my car for 12months now, my invertors are in my headlight literaly, I have no wires at all on show, mine are fine.
