so what does the extra 2.5 litre actually do apart from drink fuel??

Nothing, but that cylinder block is from a design that dates back about 50 years.

i sometimes wonder if these conversions are done for power or just to be bigger and better than the next conversion. awesome if youve got that kinda money to throw around i spose

Although out the box the yanks say 350bhp over here on uk dyno's it just over 400 but we have better octane fuel & less imtions rubbish on out cars.

The reason for using engines like these is TORQUE a STD one produce about 350 ftlbs not NM..... & so low down it makes a diesel seem sluggish lol

I guess u have to drive them to understand it there is so much more to it that just pure numbers, also they are so easy tune & cheap....

Someone needs input the twin turbo v12 out of the 760 into a compact.

Now THAT'd be awesome!

If only BMW released the 4.4 V8 tdi engine they sell in Europe (320bhp and 550lb/ft out of the box) here in the UK! Would've been great to whack that into an E46 chassis! Torque madness!! :o

It is a little shocking how lazy those big american engines are

That corvette engines rated at 350bhp for a 5.7 litre engine.

My 3.2 litre was dyno'd in october at 352bhp

so what does the extra 2.5 litre actually do apart from drink fuel??

Original Merc E55 AMG (non kompressor) is 5.4 litres and "only" 354bhp too...........no slouch though and plenty of torque

These American V8 conversions have been going on for decades. One of the reasons they take out "expensive" engines is so they have a ready and cheap spares supply just down the road. Another popular engine swap over in the states in the '80s was to rip Jaguar XJ6 engines out and replace them with home grown V8 lumps. They gave better "gas mileage", stopped plowing under braking, increased cornering prowess, gave gobs more torque, and cut down massively on engine repair and servicing costs. There used to be a firm in the states that did kits for several swaps for foreign cars.

I have so little time and space, but I'd love to have a S1000RR powered mini! No I'm not going to cannibalise mine

My brother has E30 with V8 from M5 E39 and it si almost imposible for driving i can imagine with 5.7 :blink:/>

The S62 has more power than a standard LS1. Typical yank engine, huge displacement, with poor bhp/cc
