Ok so basically i've been looking around on e46fanatics recently about the "Golf Tee Mod" as its free and i'm relatively broke :/ The concept is that you disconnect a vacuum hose from the exhaust therefore forcing a butterfly valve inside one of the twin pipes to remain open to allow for a deeper sound at low revs. For those that found the above didn't make sense (and it didnt to me at first) i'll explain.
