///Marty
Thought i'd get a start on this one, As pretty much all the bits have arrived now and it'd be nice to try and at least get the HU in before the bluwater meet. Started this evening by stripping down the centre console. Gonna try and take loads of pics all the way through the process, and will just add to the thread as and when i've got time to do a bit on it. First things first. Removed my Pioneer single din head unit: Next up i removed the sunglasses holder (just get your hand inside and give it a tug), and removed the air con unit by pushing it out from behind and disconnecting the four wires that connect it to the car: With the air con unit out the way, the carrier for the HU and the air con can be removed - four screws top and bottom in each corner: Next i needed to remove the bottom carrier that houses the sunglasses holder, ash tray and cigarette lighter. To remove this the gear surround needs to be removed as two of the four screws are located underneath. Pop the gaitor off (i found it easiest to start at one corner and work the rest out, and remove the handle by giving it a good pull! - try not to hit yourself in the face or knock your interior mirror off at this point as when it goes.... it really goes! Lift up the surround, disconnect all the window switches and the whole thing will lift up and will be out of your way: Remove the four screws from the lower carrier and disconnect the wires from the back of the cigarette lighter and this can no also be removed: The DSC button, fill panel, ash tray LED and cigarette lighter can now be removed from the old carrier and placed into your new air con relocation unit (£30 from quarry motors). Air con unit can now be fitted into new lower carrier which leaves a nice big hole for lovely double dininess at the top!:

DaveDunlop
or you could pay someone to do it then you would have the car back all done and clean much more 'fun' doing it yourself though.

Cost me £600 in labour though, and I was without my car for 2 days which was quite annoying :s £600. Ouch! I know it's a PITB but i could not face handing over that much cash for something i would be able to do myself. Must have been nice to just get it back all finished though! God Marty Your brave! If this gives confidence for others to go for it then all the better. That said it might put people off when they see the heater box cutting and flap modification! So far so good well done matey, looking forward to the end result! Cheers dude, can't wait for the end myself. Hooked the HU to test it and i'm well impressed with the user interface and its capabilities already. Think it's gonna take me a while to figure out how to use everything though.
