New M5 Debut

Recommended Posts

I think the front end looks more agressive than the e60, but I am still not 100% sold on it all - will have see one in the flesh to decide.

552bhp is no joke however - must go like stink seeing as it is meant to weigh no more than the e60, and has a 7 speed box.

Thats a good point - what do we think is the ugliest car BMW has ever made?

Or we could make a topic but slightly alter the question 'What is the ugliest moddified BMW?' lol

I think it'll be different in the flesh as with most things :)

I like it :) No where near as beefy looking as the curernt model, but I'd still pull over if it came charging up behind me on the motorway

Absolutely love the new 5/6/7's! I think its quite a nice looking car! Being a diesel driver I love the idea of a turbo but as i've said before - its based on the same engine as a non-M. Its just been tuned to these power levels which kinda takes away a bit of the "specialness" for me..

Still, I wouldn't say no to one! B)

Oh no - does this open the whole can of worms on the "M" debate again.....?

but most M BMW's are based on a non M engine

the last on was the exception.. but the E39 M5 was based heavilly on the 4.4 V8 engine from the 540i, the M3 was based on the engine from the 330 with differing stroke, head design etc. But the point is these all start from non M based platforms. Its what they do with it that makes it special.

Actually I think the E36 & E46 M3 engine was a ground up design tbh.

I doubt much is left of the X5M engine that will be in the M5 either. M Division would do a lot more to queeze a few HP out of an engine than you or I.

As for Ugliest BMW ever

I give you

And contravertially on an E46 site, but I cant say I ever liked any 3 series with more than 2 doors and that includes the 3 door compact things.

Oh god, I forgot about the Offroaders.

Every last one of them is filthy ugly, especially the X1, X3 and X6. The X5 is almost barable but tbh, still insulting.

Seriously BMW, WTF is going on with this thing?

This rear - oh dear?!

Orignal X3, X1 and compact are defo up there. The 5 series GT is also a solid contender.

As for the M coupe - I think that is being a bit harsh, and that it looks better than all the above mentioned ones.

It's no e60 that's for sure but it's not too bad I suppose.

I quite like the X6 now. I used to think it was butt ugly, but my opinion's changed.

+1. Really used to hate them but it's grown on me. Same with all the BMW's e60 onwards really. Couldn't stand the e60 to start with

I guess BMW know what I like even before I do...!
