320d glow plugs

hi there had car on computer today and its saying cylinder 1 glow plug not working so gunna change all 4 at same time .as any body done these as iv been told inlet manifolds to come off so just wounderd if theres oat to watch out for when changeing or are thay pritty straight forward cheers bolts

Hi,

Not changed them on a BMW but have done them on a 6 cyl Merc and all I would say is.....be careful.....be very careful indeed.

Modern glow plugs are slender fragile things that will shear if you put too much torque on them so, if the glow plug is tight in, they can shear off leaving you with a broken bit of glow plug in your head.

Make sure you use a good fitting spanner ( you can buy specific glow plug spanners), try and do it with the engine warm and spray some 'plus gas' around the thread and, if you feel too much resistance, put it all back together and take it to a garage to do them.....believe me, that will be a lot cheaper than sorting the mess out if one shears on you!
