Road Legal Quad Bike

Recommended Posts

Genuinely considering one of these bad boys... Mainly for a laugh, but also a cheap runabout as I'd prefer to use it to my bike in the bad weather.

250cc

2 seater

5 speed manual + reverse

Obviously it's no power house being 250cc but should be fun. I have the 328 and Z1000 for speed!

Potentially viewing this tomorrow night. The price would be £1300 + tax. It's a 12 plate with 250 or so miles on it so just run in. The seller told me it's assembled in the UK so parts shouldn't be too hard to come across if required. I expect it's made in China or something though..

Would be even more awesome with a bigger engine!

At least a small engine means it'll cost almost as much as if it was electric, and tax/insurance will also be cheaper.

Counts as a car as far as parking is concerned though...

It looks great,

Who manufactures them?

I would check on parts cost and availability before purchasing and find out as much as you can about the manufacturer too.

Going against the grain here, sorry, but I've always seen riders of road legal quads as a bit of a tool. Out in the weather, stuck in the traffic, slower than a bike, no heater like a car.

Pointless IMO.

Probably fun for the first 2 miles until the novelty wears off and you realise why there aren't more quads on the road.

Google the manufacture as I saw one of these a few weeks back on ebay and after some searching (if it's the same - which was very similiar) are unreliable and fall apart, it's cheap for a reason!!! This one may be a different brand/variant so may be fine

Id love one! I do probably 20 miles a day just arsing around between friends houses locally, 5 miles here, 5 miles there etc. Would cut down on the cost of fuel and be fun at the same time.

Whats the crack with these, can you use them on a car license as they have 4 wheels, or do you need a bike license?

If you have a car and a motorbike I can't see what purpose these serve. They do look pretty cool though. But I'd rather have one more like this:

3 of my mates bought one of these each from the place in London. They are jap imports. 2 of them broke within a week but they place they bought them from did send up the new parts the following week. I have been told if your going to get a quad, which am looking at myself, is to spend proper money on one and get a raptor or a banshee

Stereotyping I know but usually at the helm is some unsavoury character with in a vest and crap tattoos with a kid or one of their mates clinging on to the back of them for dear life. They can usually be seen hurtling towards you at twice the speed limit on a warm day.

So... It's a Zhenhua - £1995 new: http://www.lynxatv.co.uk/road-legal-quad-bike-zhenhua-250cc-white.html

UK assembled and parts readily available from that site. Tyres are 270/30/14 so I expect they may be pricey...

I'm curious and fancy a test drive. It'd only be for a bit of fun.. But it does sound like a cheap way of getting around! You drive them on a car licence as they have a reverse gear, meaning technically no helmet required, but I think you'd be pretty stupid not to wear a helmet.

If the daft bint that lives near me is anything to go by, all quad bikes appear to be road legal :2guns:

She can often be seen zooming around without a helmet, zooming along the pavement and across the kids playground. She's old enough to know better as well....

A Honda GoldWing has a reverse gear too, but you can't drive that on a car licence?

Are you sure you drive these on a car licence? I thought you still needed a bike licence or CBT? If they are classed as cars they have to pay congestion charge and park in car bays and have none of the advantages of a motorbike, and all the disadvantages...

Not everybody lives in central london. Out here in the rural parts of the world you can easily stick one of these on a curb somewhere whilst you pop to the shops, not sure where you would stick your shopping mind... Also what's this congestion charging you talk of ^_^

I think they are useful for us rural folk.

Can they go on the motorway?
