EGR Blank 320d

Recommended Posts

I have done my decat eventually with some messing haha and my swirl flap blanks and breather .. So im getting there with maintenance stuff .. So i am planning my remap for this weekend and was thinking about the egr blank? As i can get it remapped out in the map

Is it worth doing? What are benefits or negatives?

Benefits - No dirty exhaust gases going back into engine. Marginally better pick up. No dirty exhaust gases going back into the engine. Marginally better mpg (sometimes).

Negatives - You pollute the atmosphere marginally more.

IMO just pull the vacuum hose on the egr and plug..... Get the guy to map the error code out ;)

Save you about £50 on a blanked egr from flea bay.. ( happy days , spend the £50 down the pub instead  )

Turbo spools up better / more responsive B)

You could do that, i just think the engine bay looks tidier with a egr delete but then again it is £50. i have done both pulled the vaccum hose then got an egr delete, you could pull the vaccum hose get the codes mapped out then get an egr delete later?

That's what i'd do..

Plus dont forget the EGR is slightly more restrictive than a proper delete.

Does it make that much difference on a turbo, though? The turbo is still going to be blowing the same amount of air, all the guts of the EGR will do is make the air more turbulent as it passes.

I can understand it being properly restrictive on an atmo engine, or if it was the atmo side of the turbo.

Probably not.. lol.

Still - a proper delete looks better! :P

I had a delete on my chipped e39 525tds.

The only noticeable difference I could feel was throttle response below spool up, so only when setting off from standstill.

Mine was auto though. A manual you can set off already spooled up but your clutch might not like it in the long term. It does make a little difference and I may put one on the e46 in the future.

It'll throw the light up if you've got a EU4 compliant engine, if not then no. In my experience the car runs a lot better with it disconnected.

I've done mine and it gives you peace of mind knowing you're not filling you inlet with exhaust gas at low revs anymore, plus mine stopped smoking under heavy acceleration once I'd blanked it

Yeah ive done mine tonight and straight away it feels a bit perkier low down and instead of 43ish .. Ive been gettin 51 tonight!

Seems to be smoother, as you say, just need the light mapping out. Wont be long untill my remap!

The mpg will be a combo of the summer derv you're now using & the warmer temps, rather than than just the EGR. I hate mine with it connected, so much keener with it off.

Only way to know is to unplug it I guess?

You can check your car's build sheet which will show if it's EU4 compliant or not. Pulling the vac pipe doesn't show the EML immediately on an EU4 engine, it takes a few miles/starts.

Check it here http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/accessories/electronic-parts-catalogue/electronic-parts-catalogue.html

enter the log in and then click the options tab at the top and it will give you the build sheet
