RichBergh330
I have done my decat eventually with some messing haha and my swirl flap blanks and breather .. So im getting there with maintenance stuff .. So i am planning my remap for this weekend and was thinking about the egr blank? As i can get it remapped out in the map Is it worth doing? What are benefits or negatives?
JasonK
Benefits - No dirty exhaust gases going back into engine. Marginally better pick up. No dirty exhaust gases going back into the engine. Marginally better mpg (sometimes). Negatives - You pollute the atmosphere marginally more. Sent from my Lumia 1520 using Tapatalk
RichBergh330
Ahh ok, fair enough .. But then again, ive taken a cat out so a little extra pollution cant help haha and ive done a good thing by getting rid of my 330 petrol so done my bit of the environment haha StuBeeDoo
Mr Xen
IMO just pull the vacuum hose on the egr and plug..... Get the guy to map the error code out Save you about £50 on a blanked egr from flea bay.. ( happy days , spend the £50 down the pub instead ) Turbo spools up better / more responsive Edited March 22, 2014 by Mr Xen JasonK and Daud
Daud
You could do that, i just think the engine bay looks tidier with a egr delete but then again it is £50. i have done both pulled the vaccum hose then got an egr delete, you could pull the vaccum hose get the codes mapped out then get an egr delete later? That's what i'd do.. Plus dont forget the EGR is slightly more restrictive than a proper delete. Daud
StuBeeDoo
Plus dont forget the EGR is slightly more restrictive than a proper delete. Does it make that much difference on a turbo, though? The turbo is still going to be blowing the same amount of air, all the guts of the EGR will do is make the air more turbulent as it passes. I can understand it being properly restrictive on an atmo engine, or if it was the atmo side of the turbo.

syemon
I had a delete on my chipped e39 525tds. The only noticeable difference I could feel was throttle response below spool up, so only when setting off from standstill. Mine was auto though. A manual you can set off already spooled up but your clutch might not like it in the long term. It does make a little difference and I may put one on the e46 in the future. CJGREEN
Will disconnecting my EGR throw the EML up? Im not bothered about the light being on, will the car still run fine?
bungers
It'll throw the light up if you've got a EU4 compliant engine, if not then no. In my experience the car runs a lot better with it disconnected.
chocka
How does the car know the EGR is blanked off on EU4 models?
bungers
The % of requested EGR is measured against the actual % of EGR received. JasonK and Pauly123
James B
I've done mine and it gives you peace of mind knowing you're not filling you inlet with exhaust gas at low revs anymore, plus mine stopped smoking under heavy acceleration once I'd blanked it
RichBergh330
Yeah ive done mine tonight and straight away it feels a bit perkier low down and instead of 43ish .. Ive been gettin 51 tonight! Seems to be smoother, as you say, just need the light mapping out. Wont be long untill my remap!
bungers
The mpg will be a combo of the summer derv you're now using & the warmer temps, rather than than just the EGR. I hate mine with it connected, so much keener with it off.

bungers
You can check your car's build sheet which will show if it's EU4 compliant or not. Pulling the vac pipe doesn't show the EML immediately on an EU4 engine, it takes a few miles/starts.

CJGREEN
Cheers. EU4 unit top of the list. Will the car still run fine with it unplugged then? Not bothered about the EML.
