320cdw
Hi all, Just looking through the various threads about the C.D.V, the question I would like to ask is... The valve itself, is it just a plain through hole? or is there something else going on in there? All of the pictures lead me to think it is just a plain fitting with a small hole in it and all of the "modded" parts have just got a larger hole through them - Could I just drill the hole out? I don't mean a bodge job drill, I mean putting it in a machine at work and making a pukka job of it, but is it possible? Any help greatly appreciated as always... Thanks D
mjn
Yes, you can drill it through. Just ensure you remove all the metal fragments.
mit
Why drill it? Just remove the whole thing! Have to say I didn't notice much difference. I think it only causes problems if you don't drive smoothly in the first place. DonB

DonB
It's a clutch delay valve...as Mit says just remove it altogether. Mechanic took mine out a while back while doing other jobs..not sure I noticed a huge difference though
Pauly123
Thanks donb what is its purpose and is there any gain in removing?
DonB
I think it's there to protect the gearbox or something, not sure In theory removing it I think will make gear changes and setting off in first gear to second gear smoother.
simonlpearce
It was put there because yanks can't drive stick shifts so burn out the clutch all the time. It basically delays the clutch from engaging too quickly. As us brits know how to drive, its surplus to requirements. The majority of the market for manual gearboxes is Europe, and Britain is BMW's 3rd largest market (possibly 4th now, can't remember if China overtook yet) so actually it's for us. And ze Germanz.
