Desert_Cloak
Been thinking lately about the steering wheel because mine has started to get worn and the stitching is coming apart. So my question is do I retrim with Royal Steering Wheels or buy an M sport wheel?

If you like the style of your current wheel you can have it retrimmed and made a little thicker also Desert_Cloak

Desert_Cloak
I dont mind the current wheel, is the msport on smaller? I tend to like the feel of a smaller wheel. I changed the one In the astra I had from the original to a gsi and it felt tonnes better.
Pauly123
Yes msport is smaller and chunkier Rebel

B0B
The sport wheel is the same diameter but the actual rim is thicker and has thumb rests.
Desert_Cloak
But with the retrim on the 3 spoke wheel wouldnt that make it thicker from the materials he uses?
Rebel
He can use additional padding to make it a little thicker if specified. Desert_Cloak

StuBeeDoo
Yes msport is smaller and chunkier No it's not smaller. Thicker, yes, but there's a thread here which I and others contributed to where standard and Sport wheels were measured and both types are 37cm diameter. momo
Had mine done in 2011.. Starting to look a little worse for wear now.. But that's my fault as I recently discovered a pair of trakkies I wear is missing a zipper to the left pocket so when I get out of the car - it cuts my steering wheel to sh*t!! lol Ooooops! StuBeeDoo
Looks good stubeedoo, I was going to ask if anybody had any pics of one refurbed I asked Jack to keep it as original looking as possible, but thicker. When we did the thread on size/thickness we ascertained that the standard 'wheel was roughly 3mm thinner than the Sport one. Jack's work made my 'wheel 3mm thicker, so it's now the same thickness as a factory Sport wheel (but it doesn't have the thumb rests). Rebel
Yours looks like grain leather not nappa momo?
StuBeeDoo
In ^^^ that case, I'm glad I didn't bother with nappa. I thought nappa was supposed to be proper smooth.
Rebel
Nappa is smoother i.e. no grain but for me it just looked too smooth. I went for grain as it looks more natural to my eyes and ties in nicely with the dash which also has a grain finish. Pauly123
StuBeeDoo
I didn't bother for similar reasons. I think grain looks more natural/normal. Once the grain starts to smooth-out the 'wheel looks worn and I didn't want my 'wheel to look worn before its time. Did you see momo's 'wheel when it was new?
