Hotels are costing 400 euros, plus £140 for eurotunnel.

However, diesel is dirt cheap at the moment and food won't be too bad.

Reckon you'd need about £1000-1500. Next year is undecided, but maybe Norway or maybe Prynees.

Not as bad as I thought. Although I did look at it and think that's a tank of fuel a day! 

I'll keep an eye out for the next one (as/when/if) .

For Germany? I've never had one. Is that only for some motorways, or the city centers?

For town centres.  It's an emissions based sticker, different colours for different Euro compliance.  No sticker = on the spot fine.

Day 6 has been updated with a route.  In the end i had to cut the route down, as there were simply too many roads to drive.  So, i axed most of Italy and have decided that next year will be The Italian Job

done a few runs round the alps but on the western end of switzerland into italy and some of the italy - france ones. 

going in august en route to my wedding in italy via black forest - lucerne - grimsel - furka - st gotthard  

if you were going month later I could have tagged along and sloped off before the finish grrr

Looks like will just sneak in and be able to drive the Sella Pass before it shuts for 4 hours per day during July and August!!

Hmm watching this closely. Plan to do something similar with the wife but not sure if she has broken up from School by the dates you are talking about. She's a teacher BTW, not a student
