coupe rear quarter panel rust

Recommended Posts

Sorry for the late reply, I'm not very active on this forum.

The car is back from BMW today, they gave me a convertible mini one as a courtesy car haha. Either way the standard of workmanship is as you'd expect it looks fantastic. Pretty much looks like a new car too. They've also machine polished the car and surprisingly got it right, no holograms in the paint or anything. Just need the wheels refurbing now and it'll be mint. Very, very happy with their service.

Tom.

Dropped mine off for airbag recall this morning and she said they dont have a paint shop on their premises so could get a smart repair guy to give me a quote if i wanted :| i said no, its under warranty and needs looking at by their corrosion warranty guy so was told id have to sort that out separately. That's what i thought i had sorted out for today haha the women that dealt with me was nice and all but didnt have a clue what it was that i was even asking for. Will see what they've come up with when i go and pick it up!

Does anyone know when the cut off point is?

The wings on my new one have got slight bubbling so they are having a look at it Thursday. Its 12 years old on the 6th March, so if I haven't heard back from the dealer by then am I out of luck?

Cheers

Ben

Get the claim in before that date and you'll be fine. It doesn't matter how long they take to sort it out, if you come to them within the warranty period you'll be fine. Make sure the paint is original and you've got a fully stamped book and you'll be ok.

You dont need a fully stamped book or the bodywork inspection stamps either you just have a better chance at getting it all payed for if you have

I've got a fully stamped book but not all BMW.

Don't think I've got the inspection stamps.

Its booked in Thursday so I'll let you know how I get on.

Sorry I should've been more clear.

Mine didn't have a full BMW service history, but it was fully stamped with independent garages. The only thing they were concerned about was testing the paint depth. If the car has been painted at any point and the paint reading is thicker than it should be, they're unlikely to approve it. Good luck either way.

Yes I know that.

Its stamped to 2007 with BMW then to 2015 from the same indepent specialist.

I'm pretty confident it hasn't had paint before. Hopefully it hasn't anyway.

At stratstone chesterfield they used a paint detective device and they told me anything over 200 microns and thats the cut off in bmw opinion if its been painted before

I was told the same, took my car into work shop and measured paint depth to determine whether it had been sprayed before.

my front wings are really bad with small rust bubbles however didn't want to risk asking them to do them as they may of declined to do the rear quarters.

meant to be getting a definitive answer by the end of week for mine, really sweating now as it'll be a big job if they can't do it

Once you hear back from the either way i would mention your front wings mate

they have been done else ware before I bought the car, where ever it was done it they've done a shocking job as it only lasted about 4 weeks before it was back. was completed day before I bought it so they looked great upon buying, slowly getting worse now. need to buy a new or good condition used set however finding it so hard to pick some up.

may ask BMW however expect they'll be ridiculous.

considering none oem just concerned about the fit

Dont' f**k around with used ones, they rot from inside out so even ones which look OK will go at some point. New ones are £109 a side.

I had insurance approved fitted to my prefacelift and fitment is fine. These were only £35 a side so I'm really not sure why the facelift ones are so much more expensive. That's why I'm really hoping BMW will honour my claim!

Just replaced both my front wings on my Sept 2004 saloon as my car had been repaired by non authorised repair shop a few years ago and so invalidated the warranty, only cost me £175 for both ready painted & undersealed, fitted them myself.

I had mine in and most was around 80-100 but some places up to 150 and he told me its had work before because of this. Personally i dont think it has so its nice to read this, i might get back in touch and ask again.

From a guy on ebay in Dewsbury, only 15 miles from me so picked them up and had a good conversation with the guy - crabblaneparts

£109 each but as I collected got them both for £175, perfect fit and a good colour match (mine is Silbergrau)

do both facelift & pre-facelift
