Robotson
Hi, I'm looking for a face-lift 330ci with msport body. Just looked at one locally for £3100. Bodywork was generally good, tiny specks of rust bubbles on a couple of arches and slightly loose front bumper (and accompanying lower valance scrape), and door arm rests were a state, but it pulled well, no knocks or clunks over speedbumps, and stopped well. Discs had a lip of around 2mm on all of them.. Not sure how much wear that suggests? However, a few worrying things: When I pulled up on a hill, I smelt burning oil. Opened the bonnet and saw smoke coming off the exhaust manifold. Had the same issue with my 320 so I think it's the rocker cover gasket. Car had done 100k like mine. Think it only cost £300 or something, but it doesn't fill me with confidence about this car! And.. The car had 225/18 MV2 alloys on the front, but 245/18 on the back. My older 02 320ci has 255 MV1s on the back. Surely a newer and more powerful model should have 255s on the back too? The tyres were all mismatched with various treads.. And the front left was not only illegal, but the SIDEWALL was worn away!? I've never seen that, how could it happen? Flat tyre that's been driven on a lot maybe? And the dealer had no service history. I would send a mechanic to fully inspect the car first, and walk away if there was anything bad. But the dealer said he'd have to charge me £100 deposit if I sent a mechanic, as the mechanic would take up his time. Sounds dodgy doesn't it?! I reckon I could get them down to £2800, but I'm not sure I should take the risk. Anyone have any idea about the issues mentioned? Cheers

RichS
Yeah, I totally agree. If it's coming from a dealer and they can't even present it correctly then just walk away.
Robotson
Thanks guys. I just needed to hear it from someone else to confirm it for me and help me not buy it! You know how it is.. you start convincing yourself that it would just need a few hundred quid here and there! I'm never going to expect a mint facelift 330 for £3500, but I think I can do better than that one!
Trevor
I did exactly the same yesterday. Arrived to view a car at a car sales showroom. They had known I was coming since I contacted them on Thursday. When I got there the car had two flat tyres! i turned round and walked out. Daz 330 Cs
Agree with the above, what sort of halfwit tries to sell a car in that condition?
