Coupe Ski Hatch Sub Build Progress!

Recommended Posts

So i decided to go with the ski hatch sub option as its the most OEM looking, and doesnt take up any room :)

so all i managed to get done this evening was

Drill the Spot welds out

smash the hatch out

cut the carpet hole out

tidy it up a bit

hoover out all the metal bits!! :L

next job is get some wood to start making the mounting for the 8" sub & buy a sub amp and wiring!

im going to be using a Free Air sub, so im just trying a decent, good value one!

any tips or suggestions welcomed!!

thanks

P.s sorry for terrible iphone pics! and a bit of whoring ;)!

so have i mate, finally got the Balls to drill holes in my car :L..

No idea what sub and amp setup im going to use yet, but it needs to be a free air sub, i still need to do some reseach into that.. will be using the standard headunit tho, so it keeps it OEM,

Amp will me mounted in the spare wheel well out of sight, all cables hidden,

just currently researching how to mount the MDF for where the sub will be mounted..

so only a minor build atm, still got some planning etc to do, im a perfectionist so its gotta be perfect :L

Id like to know if anyone has tried to install this box to a coupe, just to see how well it fits, as its meant for a vert, but im unsure of what the difference is. Can anyone shed some light?

I had a sub mounted in a box through the ski hatch and it sounds really good. Best with the armrest down. I also had the rear shelf sound deadened as well as a had a few rattles and the tennis ball mod didnt work. I posted loads of pics a few years back when it was done. I can dig them out if you want

sbonse I would be interested in seeing the parcel shelf removal as I think mine needs sound deadening as im sure thats whats rattling

OP OEM location for subs would be mounted to the parcel shelf on the underside for a coupe, your using the OEM mount for the vert :)

You would be looking at around 200-220 rms for an amp that will run that well

Trickster the shelf is easy remove lower seat told upper seat loosen bolsters and remove c pillars and I think the rear speakers have to come out too

This was kind of the inspiration for mine :D Yours looks much neater though lol, I think I might have to revise my design a little at some point this week.

looks like a really neat build.

was it difficult to drill and cut out the metal panel?? im thinking of fitting a 10 inch square kicker sub in the hatch. Don't know whether to build a box like you have or mount it free air.

I don't reckon you'll fit a 10" sub in the hatch of a coupe, the 8" in mine was a pretty tight squeeze.

I only made a box as I was finding it hard to get a free air sub for the right money, the metal panel is extremely easy to take out, just drill all the spot welds then smash it out :)
