The world has changed tremendously in so many aspects over the past millennium. Many phenomena have been developed over the years and thus, contributed to the changes experienced by men. These changes touch on social, political and even economic aspects of human life. Due to the innovations made, the lives of people have changed, as well as their outlooks, which have greatly contributed to the progress seen in so many spheres. In the social aspect, there have been shifts in morality and people’s relationships. Economically, changes in trade operations have been implemented. Political changes are seen in the development of international relations between countries. This prime essay will focus on some of these changes over the past millennium and how they have affected the modern world.

The world has changed in terms of rights protection. During his early ages, Wiesel worked as a slave laborer in the Auschwitz-Buna camp. All the people that worked in this camp as farmers were treated as slaves. They worked tirelessly, no matter how old they were. The Jews were discriminated and tortured because of their religion. In his work, Wiesel tells that the Jews were made to dig a mass grave and were then shot down, men, women and children, were buried in the grave which they had dug. The Nazis discriminated the Jews on the religious or national basis. Children were thrown into fires mercilessly, and others made to witness the hanging of their counterparts. There was mass starvation that led to the death of countless people. Exhaustion and beating during the marches also led to the deaths of many people. These grave acts witnessed in the early 19th century are no longer seen in the world today. The world has evolved to be more liberal after the World War II. The war has caused many changes in matters of international relations and world economy in general. Nowadays, all nations have the liberty to confess their own religion. People that work at farms as laborers are employed, but not forced to work as slaves. The struggle for human rights continues, and there is less discrimination on the basis of religion, race and political views.

Many people were rescued from these ordeals in 1945 by U.S soldiers. The lives of people have developed in terms of personal, political and economic rights and freedoms. Governments have the mission of ensuring that, in the present day and age, there are no cases of slavery nor discrimination The International Criminal Court has the task to ensure that inhumane acts such as those of Adolf Hitler get punished.

The area of finance has also improved greatly over the past millennium. During the 15th century, the trade industry experienced a significant development. The Chinese extended their activities into the Spice Islands and sub-Saharan West Africa. They made trade visits to the areas around Indian Ocean and to the Muslim regions. The Europeans soon joined the commerce relations around the world when the Portuguese ventured southward of West Africa by sailing through the coast. Through the trade by different European and Asian countries, the rate of commerce increased, and by the 18th century, a global network has been created. The global network was mostly dominated by western powers that distributed foodstuffs, textiles, precious metals and spices from one end of the world to the other.

The period that saw the establishment of a global trade network is referred to as the European Age Exploration. During this age, some regions such as the Americas and the Spice Islands were destroyed in terms of indigenous civilization, and the establishment of European colonies has been made. Native regimes were left intact, but the European age had a strong impact on the local societies and regional trade patterns in areas such as Africa, South Asia and mainland Southeast Asia. There was an irreversible decline in traditional institutions and values, setting in motion a corrosive process that has not been reversed in the present day and age.

Changes that were brought about by the commerce activities in the historic days include expansion of world trade and fostering of exchange of the new crops. New discoveries were made in the old and new worlds. Christianity was introduced due to the commerce between the nations at that period. Some scholars have argued that the presence of Europe in the early commerce may have encouraged new economic activity in the Indian subcontinent, as well. The major difference in world business in the present and past is that countries have embraced one another and share their resources. New technologies are being developed, thus allowing active economic activities without the need to move from one continent to the other. The social media are also being used in business activities. Many economic transactions between the nations or businesses are carried out every second due to the new technologies. Exchange of ideas, resources and manpower has been made easier over the years contributing to the growth of economies all over the globe.

Less developed countries have also grown in the past millennium. There are projects aimed at boosting the growth of third world countries. These projects are created to reduce their rates of unemployment and improve their Gross Domestic Product. The United States of America and other European countries have increased their commerce and economic presence all over the world. Other countries such as China have also developed their economic power significantly joining the ranks of the top economic powers in the world.

During the early half of the previous millennium, in the 17th century, trade was mainly carried out by exchanging goods. No particular form of currency had been invented, and people travelled large distances on their feet to carry out their trade. Currency has evolved over the years from the use of products as a means of exchange through the barter trade system to the use of gold reserves in the 18th century and finally to currency. World trade has facilitated the exchange of products with the use of the same currency. Trading within counties has been made easier due to such changes since a common currency made commerce easier. However, modern countries use different currency and due to this; US dollar or Euro are generally applied when making transactions. The ability to do such transactions was impossible in the past millenniums, but is possible now.

The rhythms and culture of any nation change very slowly. All the aspects of changes, whether geographical, cultural, commercial or political have influenced the world. Some have taken decades to be integrated.. Unfortunately, the use of technology has not been fully integrated with most of the developing countries and thus, cannot be compared to the technological level in developed countries. Such events have contributed to the gap between the two groups.

The world has developed and changed over the years. The way of living in the 16th century is extremely different from the modern one. Countries have integrated with each other economically through the early days of commerce. The aggressiveness of the Europeans and Americans during the early years of international commerce has contributed to the situation that is being experienced in the present day and age. Countries trade with each other while miles apart due to new communication methods. Traditionally, merchants used to navigate to other continents by sailing, but, nowadays, the transactions can be done electronically. Countries have learnt to live with each other and embrace peace for the good of the world. Cultures of many countries have evolved due to these developments, and integration of the cultures of other nations and societies is witnessed. The phenomena of culture shock are now more widely understood, and people accept different cultures with more understanding. All these changes, though slow, are good for the society and the world as a whole.

The world is constantly changing. Technology and international cooperation continue to evolve. The great changes experienced in previous years have made the world a better place to live, but still carry some problems. Change is good, and it should be embraced, but the evils that come along with it should not be ignored.
