delmarco
This is a DIY that is still coming together but not complete and I must say adding rear fogs to the E46 is fairly easy and cheap to do...read on; I got a great deal for a brand new Euro LKM (light switch module)...cost me $15.00 and about $7 to ship from UK to USA. It came as an entire unit but you only need the faceplate off the Euro LKM and not the entire back end module. The faceplate detaches easily off the Euro LKM and attaches easily onto the USA LCM or another Euro LKM. Takes about 5 minutes to get everything connected and back in the car. I had already prewired a connector in pin slot #49 on the main wire harness head connector that goes into the back end of my original USA LCM module. Again you only need the Euro LKM's faceplate and it will work on the USA LCM back end module to control your lights. My prewiring isn't connected yet to the the rear fog lamp bulb holders but when you push the rear fog button it still alerts you on the dash even though the fog lamps aren't in the car yet. As you know my USA Spec E46 came with factory Xenon lamps and the new UK LKM faceplate is from a non Xenon UK Spec car (as the LKM faceplate has the halogen non-auto leveling dial on it) yet still my Xenon lamps work fine and they auto-level when I turn them on. So the Non Xenon LKM faceplate did not affect that. Next up is running my prewiring to the rear fog sockets and everything should work. DIY coming soon. My USA E46 is now almost fully European with rear fogs and power folding mirrors; only thing I'm missing is the Euro E46 driver's side mini glove box. delmarco
Nice! You must be the only one to post stuff about your USA car on our UK forum! I'm from the UK! And if it was up to me (and not my parents years ago), I would still be there driving my E46 down Edgeware Rd. So you only needed to plug the Euro LCM faceplate in to get this to work? The rear fogs were already wired from the factory? All pre 2002 E46 BMWs are pre-configured (not the same as pre-wired) and set up for rear fog lamps on both sides. All you have to do is remove the metal cover (drill or dremel) and screw the rear fog bulb in and wire the power wire up in the third pin slot on the bulb holder's female plug input (it is already grounded in the middle pin slot). Send that wire to pin 49 on your USA LCM body with the Euro LKM faceplate attached and voila you have rear fog lamps. So I didn't even have to pay BMW for the new R and L bulb holders. The ones in our cars already have the rear fog bulb socket hidden under the metal plate! The DIY is really this simple and cheap. .

genuity
When you replaced this LCM, did the odometer tamper light illuminate? Supposedly this unit also holds the odometer count and syncs with the actual odometer according to the Bentley.

The faceplate is what holds the fog lamps and head lamp functions/buttons. So that is ALL you would need to replace on your car. You DO NOT need to replace the entire LCM/LKM body to add rear fog lamps. And swapping the faceplate will not set off your tamper dot.
Daz 330 Cs
yet still my Xenon lamps work fine and they auto-level when I turn them on. So the Non Xenon LKM faceplate did not affect that. The self levelling you mention on start up isnt actually self levelling at all , its purely a Test function . The light dont self level until you are moving .
