Fog light conversion

Recommended Posts

This is not to everyones taste but i do like to see a e46 with the bottom fog lights on, I dont mean in the midday sun but just as its getting overcast and even at night but as they are fogs they can blind people coming the other way.

Has anyone modded these are more to the point can you mod these to say driving lights so that you can have them on without people flashing you or worse still the old bill pulling you. I am hoping you can simply change bulbs but again what do you buy and is this legally classed as driving lamps.

This is where everyone says why do you want your bottom lights on i suppose B)

Why do you want your bottom lights on? B)

I'm not sure about the legality as not all cars have front fog lights, so I suppose you could do it if you could get lower power bulbs in there. Otherwise maybe you could tint them and then the standard bulbs wouldn't be so bright.

I reckon everyone will think you're a useless BMW driver who's got your fog lights on during the day though!

Surely i am not the only bimmer driver that likes the look of the bottom lights on, i see hundreds of bimmers with them on and it isnt foggy B)

I thought everyone would know that this is a well known BMW driving trait! Just ask any Audi driver! B)

I too like to have the foggies on when i'm out having a cruise..... just adds to the attraction of the car IMO. Although the rozzers will pull you over for it as you shouldnt have them on if it isnt foggy....killjoys! :D

I reckon you should remove them and replace with rocket launchers :D

Could you not add LED sidelights to the foglight housing, switched from the sidelights? then you would get the light without loosing the fog light functionality and maybe not get tugged by the rozzers.

Yeah that is a pretty good idea - especially if you can get some kind of LED ring halo effect (like angel eyes) :D

have u a criminal record?

Yes but for minor traffic offences when i was in my late teens, but i dont think this matters from what i have been told

I have to pass a satisfactory criminal clearance thats all, or is thing wrong? I have been knicked for a few punch ups but no charges have been given so i take it these are not on record either

once you haven't a criminal record you should be alright wayne.

the only thing that might cause you a problem is your temper.

its a very good career to have and as far as i know the rewards can be very nice. salary, benefits, pension, etc etc

go for it :D

im mean when you get sworn in as a county bailiff and your on your first case and some guy tells you to suck his balls cos he got no money to give you and you smack him in the puss lol--- thats what i mean by temper could hinder u lol

as for the criminal record-- your name is put forward as a potential bailiff for what ever area u choose. they then do a background check. if you have any black marks against your name then its goodnight vienna lol

over here wayne you cant be involved in any kind of public law enforcement unless your record is as clean as a whistle. im sure traffic offences are minor infringements over there.

maybe u should start a new thread and others might know more than me?

What about those mini's with extra spot lights on them? Is that all legal?

It does seem simple to just put lower watt bulb in there, that way they are no longer FOG lights (as they cant beat the fog), and just added driving lights that happen to be where fogs would be right?

Anyone know the rules to this?

I think it's to do with the height of the lights if I remember right. Try this: http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si1989/Uksi_19891796_en_1.htm

Actually having read it, I don't think there is a legal restriction here and you're probably ok having them as additional running lights: http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si1989/Uksi_1989..._en_8.htm#nsch3

They would be tested as fog lights for MOT and as long as they are brighter than 200 candle power they should be fine.

As for running them during the day, you have to wire them up to do so as they will only come on after you turn on the rear fogs if I remember right, and you don't want to be driving with front and rear fogs on.

Seems like a load of hassle to me though. I mean you don't exactly need to turn these lights on to attract more attention when you drive a Yellow BMW M3!! B)
