Hi all,

Having a 'right mare' at the moment. Everything was done within 30 minutes, absolutely no problems until I tried to test it all. The stereo will not turn on, I checked the fuses and they are fine (fuse 7 and 41). I reconnected the old system back up and still nothing, all fuses are intact????

Any help is grateful, it's a PHILLIPS BMW BUSINESS cassette 17 pin????

Thanks

It's official.............I'm a d***! I had checked the wrong 30 amp fuse, It's all good and working fine lol!

Ok at least I admitted it :P .

Anyway, from my own angle on this fantastic DIY from Delmarco (Thankyou), a few minor points that may help others are:

1. I used a flat bar with a 10mm lip on the end to place under the vent and gave a good sharp tug....bingo first time.

2. Followed the install to the letter and it went in really quickly. My own car decided to blow the 30amp fuse (41 I think) when I connected up initially so it might be worth taking the radio fuses out prior to installing.

3. I chose to drape the keypad control over the top of the glove box upper frame so it dangles into the glovebox when put back together. I intend to place it in a clear plastic box to avoid accidental pressing of buttons but it does allow me to access the menus whenever I need them. For example, I have just spent 10 minutes sending contacts via bluetooth to the car kit, only possible to do with the keypad control accessable. Once complete I can put it back into the glovebox and I can now dial from the steering wheel the numbers I have sent to the kit.

Well chuffed :)

Hi again,

Something else I had to figure out was that the pairing of my phone when getting in the car was well over 90 seconds and not a Delmarco had indicated? After some reading I figured out that because I had bought my CK3000 kit 2nd hand from E Bay, it still had the previous phones in it's memory. By pressing the green and red button together on the control pad this actually wipes the memory and you can start all over again.

Having done that, my phone now connects in less than 10 seconds, exactly as Delmarco said :P

Hi there great thread folks, quickie clarification question to Autosri, you have fiited the Parrot, Connect2 and intravee II/kca-420i , so have bluetooth and Ipod/iphone connectivity?

Is it only the Intravee that can be used, how about DICE, Dension etc

Hoping there is a short answer to this.

Installed this as described within a few weeks of getting the car and it is fantastic. Now contemplating doing a 16:9 sat nav retro fit. Can this just get connected into the loom where it connects to the radio module (BM54) or do I need to start cutting wires etc to get it working?

Note - I've got HK's fitted, so want that still working.

(I know that the leads for the mic and the control knob probably won't reach the front. Plan is to extend the mic and leave the control knob in the boot)

Cheers

Just a quick one, incase anyone is a pro at this kinda thing....

I have tried installing this DIY twice, on two different Headunits..

I connect everything up fine, pair my phone and they connect. When I turn the car on it finds my phone within around 10seconds and connects. When somebody calls me, the radio cuts out as it should and I answer but I cant hear anything at all, its completely silent. I have checked, double checked and even triple checked all the connections and they are definately secured...

Does anybody know what the issue could be as I am tempted to cut my losses and whack it back on ebay because I cant get any sound out of it at all..either when somebody calls me or I make a call....?

Please help! :P:o:)

Chris

Hi Simon,

I bought it from a seller on ebay based out of the UK.

LIQUID ICE.

I only mention Low Cost Audio because they have a chart of the different kits and their website seems to be more permanent than a seller on ebay.

So it would be always there for future reference.

Given the option I would say UK customers should go with Liquid Ice for fast shipping and great service.

I have followed this guide and it works very well. However, I have found that my CD Changer in the boot no longer work.... is this kit not compatible with a CD Changer?

I have noticed that when I installed the new connector onto the Stereo it had no connector going to the lower connections.... I can't remember if the original one did. Can anyone help?

Good how to guys but I MUST take issue with part of the install.

It is imperitive that you run the MIC cable BEHIND the airbag in the A pillar, if you dont and you have an accident, as the airbag deploys it will rip the mic cable apart and it will then act as a whip and can cause very serious facial injuries, im a handsfree installation engineer by trade and ive seen first hand the results of this and its not pretty.

PLEASE, run that cable BEHIND the A pillar airbag, I cannot stress this enough, the rest of the install looks pretty much spot on.

Ok, I went through about 3 pages and no one asked.

Is this upgrade compatible with the BM52 radio and Mk3 Satnav on a tape screen?

It all seems to be geared to an in dash CD single din head unit. How would I do it on a nav setup?

The connector on the Nav setup is 40-pin instead of 18 pin. As long as you have the right adapter cable it should still work :)

But search the forum for the OEM bluetooth retrofit for £65ish because that might work out better for you :)

2 things 1) Didn't think we had A pillar airbags? 2) How would you do this? My cable is tucked in the A pillar trim between the windscreen and then runs under the headlining to the rear view mirror. Surely to cross any airbag you'd have to be taking it away from the desired location? Unless you had it right next to the drivers window which would be a strange choice of placement, no?

Matt does your car definitely have the nav loom, or is it bodged onto the standard loom??

I have fitted this mod, but thats only because I have the retrofit loom which piggybacks onto the standard one - so its basically the same as described here.

Theres another cable available which means you can mount the parrot kit in the boot (you control it from the screen & MFSW anyway). Just need to work out whats right for your car.

That said, im not overly impressed with it. It loses clarity with either the hood down, or at 50+. The mic picks up too much road noise. Ive got my microphone mounted by the steering column. I dont know where else is best to mount it.

I have no idea what I have. I think it's a proper nav loom that's been hacked in to in order to wire the bits to it.

I would like Bluetooth handsfree in my car but only if I can fit it all in to control off the car controls. Be nice to have music streaming too but guessing thats out of the picture?

What connectors do I need to check in order to see what I need then guys?

Sorry should have been a bit clearer about the A pillar airbag, the bag itself doesnt run down the Apillar but the bag end tie does and this still comes out when the bag deploys. running the mic to the centre roof console is correct but you need to make sure that cable is behind the end tie, pop the "Airbag strip" off the A pillar there are 3 T 20 torx screws, undo then and the A pillar will then pop off giving you access.

OEM BMW hands free (on pre-bluetooth models) on the 'vert has the speaker next to the rear view mirror - you should have a cover on yours with a place for it to go.

But later models with the bluetooth option had the mic located in the steering column shroud, as it's a much better location for when the roof is down. My aftermarket mic is located where the OEM one would be on later models, on the steering column.

Cars without the option don't have a regular place to locate the mic on the steering column shroud, so you need to get a new one from the dealer or modify your existing one by drilling it.

Mine's drilled. Might as well, since the air vents are being cut anyway for the double din :)

Here's the link to the other OEM bluetooth retrofit I was talking about - may be useful for some of you. This link is how I found e46zone myself!
